1 Chennai Super Kings vs Punjab Kings, 41st Match

Venue: MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai

Date & Time: Apr 30, 03:30 PM LOCAL

Punjab Kings are in a tricky territory. They did begin their campaign in style by winning their opening two games but since then, they have managed only two wins out of six.

What to expect: This will be the first day game of the season in Chennai and as a result, both captains won't have to worry about dew. CSK generally prefer chasing but batting first is definitely not a bad idea if the teams are presented with a slowish track. The game could be interrupted by a bit of rain at noon but the forecast isn't threatening enough.

Chennai Super Kings

CSK are expected to stick with the same side. Ben Stokes and Deepak Chahar are still not ready.

Probable XI: Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ajinkya Rahane, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (C&WK), Tushar Deshpande, Matheesha Pathirana, Maheesh Theekshana, Akash Singh

Tactics & Matchups: Ambati Rayudu might not have had a huge say so far as an impact player but his presence could prove to be crucial against Rahul Chahar given his numbers against the leggie, who otherwise has pretty good record against most of the CSK batters.

Punjab Kings

Sikandar Raza is expected to hold onto his spot with his bowling expected to come in handy. Harpreet Brar wasn't in the XI last time but is expected to return on Sunday.

Probable XI: Shikhar Dhawan, Atharva Taide, Liam Livingstone, Sikandar Raza, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Sam Curran, Shahrukh Khan, Harpreet Brar, Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar, Arshdeep Singh

Tactics & Matchups: If the conditions are indeed slow, Dhawan is PBKS' best bet to tackle Jadeja given his excellent record against the left-arm spinner. Dhawan's SR against Jadeja is over 140 and he has been dismissed by the allrounder only once in the IPL in the last decade.

2 Mumbai Indians vs Rajasthan Royals, 42nd Match

Venue: Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai

Date & Time: Apr 30, 07:30 PM LOCAL

As the IPL reaches a mega milestone of 1000th game today, there's a lot similar to when it all commenced, in 2008. Rajasthan Royals were not heavyweights, and yet, a wonder side that was unstoppable in that season. Champions too.

What to expect: The pitch and the ground have favoured batters and stroke-makers usually, with the bounce also bringing tall pacers into the equation.

MI:

Tactics and match-ups: The distribution of overs amongst their bowlers, particularly Chawla could be a point to ponder. The legspinner has dismissed Sanju Samson twice in 36 balls, and is also likely to match-up well against Hetmyer, whose overall strike-rate (107) and average (18) against legspin is not so handy. The spinner thus could be in play through the middle to latter part of the innings if this match-up is to be exploited.

With Jofra Archer available for selection, MI are likely to leave out Riley Meredith. Arjun Tendulkar set to retain his position so is Nehal Wadhera.

Probable XI: Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Cameron Green, Tim David, Tilak Varma, Nehal Wadhera, Arjun Tendulkar, Piyush Chawla, Jason Behrendoff, Jofra Archer

RR:

Tactics and matchups: The battle upfront with RR's swing bowlers against Mumbai's openers is loaded in favour of the bowlers. Both Sandeep Sharma and Trent Boult have troubled the openers in the past, while Rohit's struggle could continue even against the duo of Chahal and Ashwin, with the latter having dismissed him thrice.

One obvious change would be Trent Boult coming in the place of Adam Zampa with the rest of the XI unlikely to be disturbed.

Probable XI: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler, Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Dhruv Jurel, R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Sandeep Sharma, Trent Boult

Two record chases in the IPL yesterday, just when we felt we were sensing a pattern of batting first and winning in this season!

"When I scored the century, I didn't know that ball had gone to the boundary. So when that happened, I just thanked God for the opportunity, I always had this dream, wanted to work on the process and work hard."

A young lad's revelation while accepting the POTM!

SIX SIX! SIX! What a finish! Mumbai Indians (214/4) edge past Rajasthan Royals (212/7) in a high scoring thriller for fourth win of the season.

After all these dramatic moments, let us peep into today's match! We are not sure about the action/ reaction of the bat & ball, in today's match we are going to see a proactive player who loves to express loudly on the field, i.e., Virat Kohli!

Another high octave match in the offing! A few details of today's match --

Lucknow Super Giants vs Royal Challengers Bangalore, 43rd Match

Venue: Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow

Date & Time: May 01, 07:30 PM LOCAL

The previous meeting between these two teams this season turned out to be a thrill-a-minute, final ball finish at a throbbing Chinnaswamy stadium. Runs might not be as freely on offer at LSG's home, but given the opposing strengths of the two teams, expect another close contest, even if a low-scoring one.

What to expect: Batting struggles. The average first innings score of 152 is the lowest across venues this season. Thunderstorms are expected an hour ahead of the game but the anticipation is for it to not have an impact on the game.

Head to head: RCB have a 2-1 advantage over LSG. In all three fixtures, RCB batted first.

Team news

Lucknow Super Giants

Injury/Unavailability: Marcus Stoinis's availability will depend on the fitness test on Sunday (April 30). The Aussie all-rounder had hurt his finger in the previous game after being hit by an Atharva Taide drive on his follow-through. Stoinis had to leave the field at that point, but Badoni reckoned on the eve of the fixture that it was a minor injury.

Tactics & match-ups: Avesh Khan has done well previously against both RCB openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis. To Kohli, he's bowled 22 balls, conceded just 23 and dismissed him twice. To Du Plessis, he has conceded 48 off 41 and dismissed him once.

The spicier contests, though, will be between Amit Mishra and two RCB stalwarts - Kohli and Glenn Maxwell. It's been fiery both ways, as Kohli has smashed at 156.12 and Maxwell at 204.35, but Mishra has dismised the former thrice and the latter five times. The slow surface at the venue might yet side with the veteran leggie.

Probable XI: KL Rahul (c), Kyle Mayers, Marcus Stoinis/Quinton de Kock, Ayush Badoni, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya, Naveen Ul-Haq, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Yash Thakur/Yudhvir Singh Charak

Royal Challengers Bangalore

Injury/Unavailability: The fitness status of Josh Hazlewood remains unknown. He'd trained during RCB's day fixture on April 23 but was not bowling in the nets on Sunday in Lucknow.

Tactics & match-ups: Harshal Patel could be RCB's man to stop Marcus Stoinis in his tracks. The Aussie, fresh from a 40-ball 72, averages 169.12 against RCB but has found it tough to put away Harshal in his previous face-offs against the pacer. Harshal has conceded just 26 off 19 balls against Stoinis and has dismissed him twice in the same period.

If Harshal's hand injury hasn't fully healed yet, he will not be risked during the batting innings and could be used as an impact player.

Probable XI: Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Shahbaz Ahmed, Glenn Maxwell, Mahipal Lomror, Dinesh Karthik, Suyash Prabhudessai/Karn Sharma, David Willey, Wanindu Hasaranga, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Mohammed Siraj

Today's match details---

Gujarat Titans vs Delhi Capitals, 44th Match

Venue: Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad

Date & Time: May 02, 07:30 PM LOCAL

DC finally looked like staging a pretty good comeback after losing their first five games. Having won two in a row post that, they were definitely favourites to make it three in three before a batting collapse ensured they suffered a demoralising loss.

What to expect: Ahmedabad has been a paradise for the batters this season. Expect another contest where the bat dominates the ball.

Team Watch

Gujarat Titans

Sai Sudarshan scored a fifty when these two teams met last time and was named man of the match. But only two out of Vijay Shankar, Abhinav Manohar and Sudarshan have a spot in the XI at the moment.

Probable XI: Wriddhiman Saha (WK), Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya (C), Vijay Shankar, David Miller, Abhinav Manohar, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, Mohammed Shami, Josh Little

Tactics & Matchups: In this year's IPL, wrist spinners have ruled the roost against DC, picking 16 wickets at an average of just over 14. Titans have the Afghan duo of Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad to cause problems to a batting unit that's already short on confidence.

Delhi Capitals

With Phil Salt scoring a fifty in the last game, it's hard to see DC make any changes to their overseas quartet.

Probable XI: David Warner (C), Phil Salt (WK), Mitchell Marsh, Manish Pandey, Sarfaraz Khan, Lalit Yadav/Ripal Patel, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje, Ishan Sharma, Mukesh Kumar

Tactics & Matchups: David Warner batting deep could solve a lot of issues for DC in this contest. He does have an excellent record against Shami who has been terrific with the new ball. And against leg spin, Warner has been striking it at 140 since 2020 in the IPL.

In the middle of the week, there is another double header!

Kudos to Delhi Capitals for keeping the group stages interesting. This win should do them a world of good.

LSG vs CSK match shifted to May 3 from May 4 due to the Lucknow Municipal Corporation election!

Lucknow Super Giants vs Chennai Super Kings, 45th Match

Venue: Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow

Date & Time: May 03, 03:30 PM LOCAL

Match--45

Having failed to get over the line in a low-scoring game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Super Giants suffered their third loss at home on the trot and will have their work cut out when Chennai Super Kings, known for their acumen on tracks that have been on the slower side, come visiting.

What to expect: Another low-scoring game. In the previous afternoon game at this venue, the Titans defended 135 despite LSG having scored more than 100 in the first 14 overs. Teams batting first had won three of the five matches played here. But thunderstorms have been forecast during the match time, which could lead to a curtailed game. Hence, bat or bowl will be a vexing issue for the captain winning the toss.

Head to head: The two teams have a 1-1 record in their face-offs so far. LSG chased down a target of 211 in their first meeting in 2022 while CSK defended 217 at Chepauk this year, keeping LSG to 205.

Teams watch

Lucknow Super Giants

Rahul's injury might force LSG to strengthen their batting base by bringing in Quinton de Kock, who is yet to play a game this season. Should the South African wicketkeeper-batter make the cut, Naveen-ul-Haq could make way and Avesh Khan could be brought back into the eleven. LSG will also miss the services of Jaydev Unadkat who suffered an elbow injury during practice ahead of the game against RCB, tripping over a string attached to the nets, and was sent to Mumbai for scans.

Tactics & match-ups: Amit Mishra and Krunal Pandya could be effective against both Ajinkya Rahane and Ambati Rayudu. Mishra has dismissed Rahane and Rayudu three times apiece while Krunal has dismissed these two twice each, and the two CSK batters have a strike rate of under 120 against the two spinners.

Probable XI: Quinton de Kock (wk), Kyle Mayers, Deepak Hooda, Marcus Stoinis, Krunal Pandya, Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni, Krishnappa Gowtham, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Amit Mishra. Impact sub - Yash Thakur.

Chennai Super Kings

It is still unclear if Ben Stokes, who has been recovering from an injury, is fit for the game. CSK, who have been unchanged for the past few games, might stick to the same combination.

Tactics & match-ups: Nicholas Pooran averages 22.8 and has a strike rate of 117.53 against spinners who turn the ball away from him. Moeen Ali and Maheesh Theekshana make effective match-ups against the West Indian left-hander. CSK could also use the two spinners against de Kock (if he plays), as the South African averages only 20.33 and has a strike rate of 102.09 against away turners. Pooran, meanwhile, has scored 42 runs off 20 deliveries against Jadeja and CSK will look to avoid using his left-arm spin when the batter is around.

Probable XI: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Ajinkya Rahane, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Matheesha Pathirana, Tushar Deshpande, Maheesh Theekshana. Impact sub - Akash Singh.

Match 46

2 Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians, 46th Match

Venue: Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali

Date & Time: May 03, 07:30 PM LOCAL

Don't forget to send your predictions.

On the back of morale boosting 200+ successful chases in IPL's 999th and 1000th match respectively, Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians would aim to take down another playoffs' contender in their reverse clash at Mohali!

What to expect: The sun hasn't been out much the whole of this week and there's a real nip in the air from consistent overnight showers. There's also some rain forecast in the lead-up to the match tomorrow. Teams batting first have won three out of the four encounters in Mohali this season, with the hosts being successful in just one game.

Head to head: Punjab vs Mumbai has been a neck-and-neck battle in IPL. The teams have a 15-all record in their 30 encounters thus far, and an even 5-all since 2018.

Team News

Punjab Kings

Given their packed travel and match schedule last few days, the hosts had an optional training session on the eve of the match.

Tactics & Match-ups: PBKS inexplicably left Rabada out of their game against RCB despite the South African's stellar record against their key batters, and can ill afford a similar miss again. Rabada has dismissed Rohit Sharma four times and Suryakumar Yadav thrice in IPL, making it a subplot worth keeping an eye on.

Probable XI: Shikhar Dhawan (c), Prabhsimran Singh, Atharva Taide, Liam Livingstone, Sikandar Raza, Sam Curran, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Shahrukh Khan, Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar, Arshdeep Singh

Mumbai Indians

The visitors might be tempted to give local hero Ramandeep Singh a go here, even if just as an impact sub.

Tactics & Match-ups: In an innings of 182/6 against the hosts in 2019, Jofra Archer finished with impressive figures of 3-15 from his four overs at a ground that has generally churned batter-friendly conditions. He would be expected to shoulder MI's otherwise troubled pace department again, especially with overcast conditions likely to come to his aid.

Probable XI: Rohit Sharma (C), Ishan Kishan (wk), Cameron Green, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Tim David, Jofra Archer, Arjun Tendulkar, Piyush Chawla, Kumar Kartikeya, Riley Meredith.

Update for today's match--47

Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Kolkata Knight Riders, 47th Match

Venue: Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad

Date & Time: May 04, 07:30 PM LOCAL

KKR's form has fallen off after making a bright start and SRH on the other hand have been very erratic. However, the side that picks up a win on Thursday will fancy their chances of staging a late comeback to join the rest of the teams in the battle for a playoff spot.

What to expect: A humid evening awaits the players. In terms of the conditions, we have had a couple of high-scoring games and a couple of low-scoring games so far this season.

Team Watch

Sunrisers Hyderabad

After making loads of changes to that top order throughout the season, SRH finally seemed to get things right in their last match against DC. They will likely retain the same group and probably replace Akeal Hosein with Marco Jansen.

Probable XI: Abhishek Sharma, Mayank Agarwal, Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram (C), Harry Brook, Heinrich Klaasen (WK), Abdul Samad, Marco Jansen, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mayank Markande, Umran Malik

Tactics & Matchups: Suyash Sharma and Varun Chakaravarthy have been amongst the wickets for KKR this season but Aiden Markram's record against leg spin in IPL is pretty good. He averages 46.50 at a strike rate over 145 so his presence in the middle overs will be crucial for SRH.

Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR will have a big call to make at the top of the order after Rahmanullah Gurbaz's 81 in the last game. If Jason Roy is fit, he might replace David Wiese as the fourth overseas player.

Probable XI: Jason Roy, Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana (C), Andre Russell, Rinku Singh, Shardul Thakur, Sunil Narine, Harshit Rana, Varun Chakaravarthy, Suyash Sharma

Tactics & Matchups: Andre Russell usually bowls at the death for KKR these days. But there is a case for him to bowl early in the game this time given his superior record against Rahul Tripathi and Mayank Agarwal. He has bowled a combined 43 deliveries to these two and has dismissed them six times in total.
