Lucknow Super Giants vs Chennai Super Kings, 45th Match
Venue: Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow
Date & Time: May 03, 03:30 PM LOCAL
Match--45
Having failed to get over the line in a low-scoring game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Super Giants suffered their third loss at home on the trot and will have their work cut out when Chennai Super Kings, known for their acumen on tracks that have been on the slower side, come visiting.
What to expect: Another low-scoring game. In the previous afternoon game at this venue, the Titans defended 135 despite LSG having scored more than 100 in the first 14 overs. Teams batting first had won three of the five matches played here. But thunderstorms have been forecast during the match time, which could lead to a curtailed game. Hence, bat or bowl will be a vexing issue for the captain winning the toss.
Head to head: The two teams have a 1-1 record in their face-offs so far. LSG chased down a target of 211 in their first meeting in 2022 while CSK defended 217 at Chepauk this year, keeping LSG to 205.
Teams watch
Lucknow Super Giants
Rahul's injury might force LSG to strengthen their batting base by bringing in Quinton de Kock, who is yet to play a game this season. Should the South African wicketkeeper-batter make the cut, Naveen-ul-Haq could make way and Avesh Khan could be brought back into the eleven. LSG will also miss the services of Jaydev Unadkat who suffered an elbow injury during practice ahead of the game against RCB, tripping over a string attached to the nets, and was sent to Mumbai for scans.
Tactics & match-ups: Amit Mishra and Krunal Pandya could be effective against both Ajinkya Rahane and Ambati Rayudu. Mishra has dismissed Rahane and Rayudu three times apiece while Krunal has dismissed these two twice each, and the two CSK batters have a strike rate of under 120 against the two spinners.
Probable XI: Quinton de Kock (wk), Kyle Mayers, Deepak Hooda, Marcus Stoinis, Krunal Pandya, Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni, Krishnappa Gowtham, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Amit Mishra. Impact sub - Yash Thakur.
Chennai Super Kings
It is still unclear if Ben Stokes, who has been recovering from an injury, is fit for the game. CSK, who have been unchanged for the past few games, might stick to the same combination.
Tactics & match-ups: Nicholas Pooran averages 22.8 and has a strike rate of 117.53 against spinners who turn the ball away from him. Moeen Ali and Maheesh Theekshana make effective match-ups against the West Indian left-hander. CSK could also use the two spinners against de Kock (if he plays), as the South African averages only 20.33 and has a strike rate of 102.09 against away turners. Pooran, meanwhile, has scored 42 runs off 20 deliveries against Jadeja and CSK will look to avoid using his left-arm spin when the batter is around.
Probable XI: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devon Conway, Ajinkya Rahane, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (c & wk), Matheesha Pathirana, Tushar Deshpande, Maheesh Theekshana. Impact sub - Akash Singh.

On the back of morale boosting 200+ successful chases in IPL's 999th and 1000th match respectively, Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians would aim to take down another playoffs' contender in their reverse clash at Mohali!
What to expect: The sun hasn't been out much the whole of this week and there's a real nip in the air from consistent overnight showers. There's also some rain forecast in the lead-up to the match tomorrow. Teams batting first have won three out of the four encounters in Mohali this season, with the hosts being successful in just one game.
Head to head: Punjab vs Mumbai has been a neck-and-neck battle in IPL. The teams have a 15-all record in their 30 encounters thus far, and an even 5-all since 2018.
Team News
Punjab Kings
Given their packed travel and match schedule last few days, the hosts had an optional training session on the eve of the match.
Tactics & Match-ups: PBKS inexplicably left Rabada out of their game against RCB despite the South African's stellar record against their key batters, and can ill afford a similar miss again. Rabada has dismissed Rohit Sharma four times and Suryakumar Yadav thrice in IPL, making it a subplot worth keeping an eye on.
Probable XI: Shikhar Dhawan (c), Prabhsimran Singh, Atharva Taide, Liam Livingstone, Sikandar Raza, Sam Curran, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Shahrukh Khan, Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar, Arshdeep Singh
Mumbai Indians
The visitors might be tempted to give local hero Ramandeep Singh a go here, even if just as an impact sub.
Tactics & Match-ups: In an innings of 182/6 against the hosts in 2019, Jofra Archer finished with impressive figures of 3-15 from his four overs at a ground that has generally churned batter-friendly conditions. He would be expected to shoulder MI's otherwise troubled pace department again, especially with overcast conditions likely to come to his aid.
Probable XI: Rohit Sharma (C), Ishan Kishan (wk), Cameron Green, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Tim David, Jofra Archer, Arjun Tendulkar, Piyush Chawla, Kumar Kartikeya, Riley Meredith.
