Speaking of instruments, I discovered this one thanks to GOT :) hammered dulcimer⊠and needle âŠabout my fav Arya âŠ. What shall we tell the God of Death âââ not todayâŠâŠ :)

Isn't this hammered dulcimer essentially the santoor? It looks & sounds remarkably similar! At least to my untrained ears - i maybe missing out some nuances

I think of it as variations of one anotherâŠnot that I can explain in detail what they areâŠ
and clearly not untrained ears đ±đ±.
I have trained in Carnatic classical and I still admit thereâs plenty I donât know. Music is as infinite as the universe right?Originally posted by: KJasoosChulbulP

Trained in Carnatic classicalâŠ.. words Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

This piece is a traditional Carnatic classical composition with a contemporary arrangement, but what makes the piece so heartwarming is the soul put into it!Originally posted by: LizzieBennet
I was up until midnight listening to this one on loop and sobbing non-stop because the music, the lyrics and the singing đđđ Divine!
Manavyalakincharadate marmamella telpedane manasa
Thyagarajaâs devotion to Lord Rama đ
The raagam Nalinakaanthi đ« đ« (I donât think Hindustani has an equivalent)
Harish Sivaramakrishnanâs voice đđđ
Tagging you, Madhu because if youâve heard this, youâll relate.
This is based in Raag Nalinikanti which is vaguely similar to Raag Tilak Kamod in the Hindustani world. The lyrics are contemplative; Thyagaraja is appealing to his mind to listen to his secrets. The melody is immensely charming, and Agam has done an amazing job of embellishing it with soft contemporary instrumentation.
These are some of the compositions in Nalinakanthi -
1 Manavinalakincharaade -- Tyagaraja
2 Brovavayya Sri Raghunandana -- Mysore Vasudeva Acharya
3 Natajana Paalini Nalinakanthi -- Tanjavur Sankar Iyer
4 Nee padame Gatinalinakantimati -- GN Balasubramanian
The whole piece is an absolute treat to the ears, thanks for sharing it here Priya.
Glad you enjoyed this one Madhu. I agree- Harish brings in so much soul into the song even with the contemporary arrangement. In fact I appreciate this so much because it allows younger people or those who identify more with this type of music to see the beauty of Classical music and thatâs absolutely a good thing. I read YT comment that said itâs easy to see why they call it Carnatic Progressive Rock because itâs definitely like CPR! âïž You must listen to their rendition of Rangapuravihara! Itâs stellar! âïžOriginally posted by: Viswasruti

I know it says online that Nalinakanthi comes closest to Tilak Kamod but I donât get the same vibes when I listen to these two raagam. Thereâs some subtle difference and that changes the entire mood that each raag evokes. Also the reason why I was bawling like a baby at midnight when I heard this one because sometimes too much joy has no route to escape except through tears! Right? Thanks for posting those other Nalinakanthi songs. I absolutely love this raagam. Hereâs another brilliant acapella of the raagam by Indian Raga mashed with ARRâs famous Kandukondein Kandukondein !
Perhaps this thread should be âeverything elseâ? Or one for non Indian same categoryâŠ. I am paying attention to categories ⊠hope its ok to post this one hereâŠ
For many this might be new.. though this group has existed for 25+ years I believe. Have seen them once live and going to see them again in Vegas this summer :)
