The audience sees her character through his eyes. As long as his vision sees the genuine her and it is not blocked by his anger he will love her always, he will give her the world, never betray or abandon her and not break his promises.

Depending on what version you believe in, he was a great man, she was a great woman, he loved her, she loved him, he was a great king, she was a great queen, they suffered, sacrifices were demanded of them for love for duty, they lived, they died and ascended the heavens.
