They have a healthy respectful relationship. Because of her husbands early death, her son had to grow up too fast. This has created a formality between them, but the love and trust will always be there.

She chose Meerab because she knows her son's heart. She has been vindictive towards Meerab, only because she loves her son and doesn't want him to get hurt, a mother's weakness. She very easily gave up her Sarpanch position and doesn't indulge in power plays, she is wise and knows past must die one day and the future must be prepared. In balance she lets Meerab be Meerab, doesn't try to change her. She guides Meerab to accept her Khani position without trying to oppress her. Meerab is who her son loves and she respects her son's choice, wants them both to be happy and she is not jealous of Meerab like a typical MIL. She is a woman of her time, but she is not beyond reason, she is strict but she is not cruel. Her tolerance and care for Behaya shows her generous heart. She is not your mushy mommy but she loves her kids and does want what is best for them.

In the coming years, post separation, when MeMu are living happily ever after with the kids. I foresee MB and Meerab becoming a formidable team, there will be love and respect between them, not this uneasy truce we see now. They will never hold the same views on many things, but they will learn to accept each other for who they are and even admire each other. MB is everything Anila isn't, she is strong willed, confident and direct like Meerab. Meerab will find a mother in MIL that she never had, and in Meerab MB will find a true companion she never had as they become friends.
