Their first tea scene is under rated
It is all MM DOUBLE SPEAK
Meeru was cruel with her words and the way she rejects him provoking him is a habit of hers. When he throws her own words back on her face, she is momentarily hurt and stunned, especially when he said she is not good enough for him to marry. Hmmmmmmmmm I guess he was never cruel back to her with his words, he gets angry ofcourse but doesn’t cross the line of deeply wounding her. This was Meeru first lesson watch your mouth girl, yes he has a lot of tolerance towards you, but he has feelings too and you can’t stomp all over his heart and expect him to take it quietly.
He wanted to mean those words but considering how quickly he ran after her in the car, his anger didn’t last long. If he senses she is in danger, his protective mode goes into overdrive and all that matters is her safety. The way he cradles her face his hands, this was a man who had feelings for her, don’t listen to his words look at his actions.
There is also very interesting parallel between tea scene in E3 and E32.
In E3 tea scene, both claim that they are "mismatched".
Merub: "Pata nahin log kaise shadi karlete hain unse jinse unki zero compatibility hoti hai"
Murtasim "Kisi qism ki compatibility ke baghair usse shaadi karoon impossible"
In E32 tea scene, Merub says we are still "mismatched" (hain not thay):
Merub: "hum log mismatched hain" [present tense]
Merub: "ajeeb si khila hai hum donon ke beech main" [present tense]
For Merub to say we are (still) mismatched makes it looks that any positive change in Merub's attitude towards Murtasim is a samjotha (rishta nibhana) rather than a re-alignment of emotions, feelings, and interpersonal dynamics (rishta banana).
For Murtasim, whose hal was "kisi ko apni mohabbat main itna giraftar karna", Merub's statement that they are still mismatched implies that his efforts to bridge their gaps have failed - that her feelings in E32 are still where they were in E3. On other hand, the hurt expressions on Murtasim's face shows that he is in a different place in E32 from E3 but realizes that Merub may not have moved still.
This ties into the foreboding lines by Murtasim at end of E32:
"...jo dil se utar ujaye usse baat nahin banti"
"woh aise insaan se shaadi kyun kare jisse woh khush hi nahi rakh sakta"
