Viaan had always been attracted to Katha - and he knew it. He was aware that he saw her different. From the first ep, he said she was ‘distracting’ as well as her hardwork and all, and Ehsan was always saying things abiut Katha to him - that she is single and just like him.

So Viaan did like her, in a normal fit of attraction. When she asked for the loan, he was disappointed because he had expectations from her already. But instead of firing her, he decided to use it to his advantage. Yes, he was’testing’ her, but a part of him also hoped she will fail because he wanted her a bit already. That was why he used that method which as we can see from Shamita, Viaan would never do for anyone else.

But I saw this most on the ONS night. If anyone watches that up again, you will see a lot of little details. Viaan said Katha could leave if she was uncomfortable - he was half-honest.

Katha was clearly shaking and uneasy, and Viaan as we all know, is intelligent. He could see it. Asking her that question was a formality a part of him hoped she will refuse. And she did. And he must have thought ‘she has said it, so I can defend myself in future’, ‘this is consent’. It was but we all know it wasn’t honest for Katha. Viaan knew too. Yet he looked away because of his expectation.

After, Katha hurries away - and we see Viaan show bitterness for once. He - a huge part of him - wishes she will look back. That she felt the tingling that he did, and perhaps this will start something. Afterall, they are closer in some way than any other person? But Katha didn’t.

She didn’t pander or want his attention. She despised him - and he perplexed him and frustrated him. If Katha had come up after and acting like she had feelings for Viaan, I tell y’all with all seriousness That Viaan would have dated her quickly. He liked her already. Viaan is only lucky that Katha is a good woman or else he would have gone the route of his dad despite his efforts. Or even, Teji is luckiest. If Katha was bad, I see Viaan who was very one-track being easily manipulated, especially since Katha was his first. Before Viaan even started writing poems, he liked Katha.

Just that the aftermath of dealing with a Katha who hated him after ONS and the stress of finding her reason for loan and trying to reconcile with her took a toll, so his feelings were on pause and it seemed like they began to develop after they had started patching up. No. The Viaan before ONS always looked at Katha with a changing gaze. I feel like Viaan quite was aware that he placed this worker of his who was single, pretty and hardworking, into a different box than others.

And it would have been easier for those feelings of ‘she’s like me’ and subtle attraction would have gone on till when he was aware. Those worked up till when she left the hotel. But when she started acting in a way he didn’t expect ( and honestly didn’t like) and then him finding out the truth, Viaan had to box his attraction because there were so many feelings of self-loathing and frustration that his attraction would have made him feel guilty.

They made peace, and he could begin paying attention to those feelings that he had ticked away in a panic, not because he was afraid of them, but because he thought it was disgusting to even have those when he wronged her and needed to atone. Viaan at that moment, even without knowing, couldn’t bear to acknowledge any affection because it was all messed up - his affection, and just the early start of it, had crushed her so bad. So it came up the only way he could accept it - being protective ‘because she was a single mum’, ‘because Ehsan was not serious’, ‘because she has been hurt’.

Ofc he had directly contributed to a lot of her hurt, but Viaan as intelligent as he is, never opted for totally detaching so as to help her. He was resisting it on a deeper level. He said to stay away yet he wasn’t happy to give that sort of relief. It was only when she seemed to forgive him, his protection was allowed to take it’s true form as something softer.

If Viaan’s attraction had been stronger than it was before he found out the real reason, if he had spent enough time to be solidly aware, this would have gone two ways. He’s have gone crazy from the shame - and regret. And he probably wouldn’t be receptive of Adi’s memories and her rejection as he is now. Because those would have been seen as obstacles from the start, rather than beautiful. Viaan hypnotized himself that he wanted only forgiveness and his attraction waxed to love While knowing all these sides of Katha. So her story became part of her.

But if he had known her for longer, he would have developed feelings over a model woman who was single and hardworking. He would have loved her but because those are not all there is to Katha, he would have been more negative in his reception of this new info and won’t be accepting. What I am saying is - Viaan would have written in as in Shamita’s false story. The angsty, bad boy CEO route and Katha would have been the worker who doesn’t want to ‘but does’ 😂.

There was no other way they could have diffused his solid feelings by then. What is happening now is a milder version, because Viaan is taking a gentle approach, his mind is at peace.

Interesting you say this. Just spent the past hour watching from the first episode 😂 because quite honestly, I didn’t pay half as much attention the first time round. But yes, Viaan’s interest in Katha is evident from their first encounter.
I haven’t come to the not-so-famous-night yet, but from what I remember, totally agree that Viaan wanted it even though he was giving her a way out. And yes, he couldn’t handle that she didn’t just not like it but that her whole attitude towards him had changed to disgust. Not to mention the anger.

What a different Viaan back then! But thank you for the reminder.

I also liked Viaan and Katha's conversation (I'm specifically mentioning the conversation they had at night)! They seemed to be so mature about their feelings, unlike the usual drama of ITV. Yes Katha is still shunning her feelings for Viaan, but that's understandable. She does not just have to battle her own personal differences (with her troubling past with him, her child, her life as a widow, etc), but she will also have to hear disgraceful opinions/gossips from colleagues, relatives, etc who will blame her of being a gold digger (as Viaan is wealthy). So her trying to fight her emotions is actually realistic. It will now be more powerful when she does fully fall for Viaan and also acknowledges it. ❤️

But I must say that I am indeed surprised when Katha admitted (in day before yesterday's episode) that the ONS is not part of her decision making at all. An intense (and painful) event like that, I personally think, would be permanently imprinted in both Viaan and Katha's minds, especially because they were physically involved? So I am surprised that both Viaan and Katha seem to have (mostly) moved passed it, as they barely mention their troubling past in their interactions?

In the scene yesterday with Arav, Viaan really did know what he was doing when he wore that tight, grey shirt, huh 😉 😂

Yes Viaan, we get it that you go to the gym regularly; we can see it. Please don't send us into this spiral of being Adnan fangirls again 😭 😂 smiley37

Mr grewal white washed is totally fake

He calls katha his daughter

But he wouldnt want katha to move on ever if she was really in love with viaan. Because then aarav for whom he has not done a single thing would be gone too. He just want katha to live as her son widow indirectly

on other hand teeji insecurities destroying her own son life. Somewhere she wants to remain viaan only priority. She herself is not a strong women or a mother. Hence projecting on katha

I liked that makers let katha dress in casuals/office wear

Even though i might not completely like styling. But good that they didnt think just because she is itv female lead, she needs to come in sarees or anarkalis to office.

Hey Paulaonohi, an interesting analysis of Viaan's pov.

Viaan's character is a highly complicated and flawed one and the makers and Adnan are doing him complete justice.

Yes, Viaan was completely intrigued by Katha from the first meeting and was extremely triggered by her asking for such a huge amount of money because of his high expectations on her and his own prejudices. Hence, the ONS proposal.

But, I personally think Viaan never intended for anything to happen between them. Yes, he was attracted to her but I don't think he even realized it himself until that night. I believe he was actually quite upset at the situation he put himself in and more so on Katha for accepting his deal.(The scene where he was having lunch with his mom, Ehsaan and Farah). And he was shown to be very anxious when he was in the hotel room and was just about leaving (when Katha was about to knock the door) so that he can avoid the situation altogether.

As far as I understood his character, he is a kind of person for whom feeling any kind of emotion towards women is something bad and will definitely hurt him. And because of his father's actions and his mother's flawed perspective on most women, him feeling attraction towards a complete stranger is an extremely wrong thing for him. He shut himself off from the opposite sex even before he was a teenager(according to the flashbacks).

Remember how he reacted when Shamita was onto him in the initial episodes... For him women showing interest on him itself is wrong and is enough to judge them as gold diggers. As he himself said during the shamita case, he always used to judge them from afar. So, he cannot be doing anything consciously. All of his feelings and actions towards Katha have been subconscious in my opinion.

Since, the makers have left the whole kaali raat sequence to audiences imagination I was quite shocked at the way things turned out to be and confused as to how to understand Katha and Viaan's thought process at that point. But I somewhat understood all of that from the way the story is progressing till now.

So, I will try to explain my perspective on this whole issue. Please bear with me.

Viaan opens the door to leave and there Katha stands and he gets shocked. He tries to act cool and see what she does and hopes she will just turn and walk back out. But then, when she asks him to show the money he gets triggered again because she is just proving his judgement right... And when she puts her bag down he takes it as a signal that she is not leaving and that she is ok with whatever is happening. I personally believe he is so overwhelmed with whatever he is feeling at that point (I think its a mix of lust, anger, awkwardness and judgement along with confusion at whatever he is feeling) that he was not in a space of being able to understand her expression of discomfort and unwillingness. He was just so lost in his own complex feelings because of the fact that she is not saying no. And, as the last grab at some sanity and hope that she will draw back at least then, he asked her to leave if she was uncomfortable. But she refused to leave, and he just succumbed making the biggest blunder of his life...

And then, he was left with even more confusion along with regret and guilt and that made him more bitter and angry towards Katha because she didn't back down and put him through this ordeal. Along with that Katha's hatred towards him confuses him even more and he doesn't get why she is so angry when all along it was her who never said no. Hence, harassing her about the money and all the crazy behavior starts. And then the redemption. He started understanding those confusing mix of emotions gradually and that evolved into love the more time he spent with her.

Basically, he is a person who stopped processing his feelings since the trauma caused by his father, just living in his prejudices and now, because of Katha, he is unraveling.

As for Katha, based on the way she behaved with Viaan after that night, I saw hatred and pain, and even guilt and shame from her (especially when she was talking to guni maa and neerja) but never disgust towards Viaan. That's what was the most surprising thing about her to me at first. I felt like she blamed herself more than him. For a woman who is no non-sense she put herself in some vulnerable situations when it came to Viaan.

I think it may offend some sensibilities and I am sorry for that in advance, but I believe she did feel something that night and that actually made her even more traumatized and confused given the situation she is in, so much so that she stopped thinking about that night at all. Instead she focused on her son and work and tried to be in a positive state choosing to ignore the kaali raat. Because thinking means she has to process her feelings and that will make her question her own values and her character. That made her hate him more for putting her in such a situation.

But when he begged her for forgiveness and when she got to know him better she started melting without realizing it herself. Hence, her hanging on to every word everyone says about Viaan, her searching for his past in the internet, her changing the AV for him, her sharing her life story with him and all the while resisting her feelings also.

That's what I understood from both their characters

I hope makers would give clarity in the future about her feelings on kaali raat like they gave for viaan. (Atleast in a subtle or indirect way because it might be too controversial for ITV). Lets see....

As usual sorry for the long post and again I'm sorry if I hurt anyone's sensibilities....
