One complain lots of people had was that Merub was "fake flirting" with Murtasim to distract him and how this was emotional manipulation yadda yadda. I saw the scene again and do not think this was fake flirting for distraction purposes (only). Before I begin, let me get this out of the way that I think the ishq/mohabbat conversation was genuine and what I refer to as the fake flirting scene was at the bottom of the stairs and the kitchen.

This is how the scene unfolds:

Murtasim: [in a worried tine] Kya hua Mariam ko (tries to go upstairs)

Merub: [in a nervous tone] woh papers ho rahe hain uske toh...woh main coffee ka poochne gayee thi

Murtasim: [in a worried tone] jaag rahee woh (looks up the stairs again)

Merub: [in an earnest tone] papers ho rahein hain na uske

Merub: [in a sweet/earnest tone which is not flirty or teasing]: aisa karte hain hum log coffee banane chalte hain

She pulls him by the wrist and he goes after her. They walk a few steps towards the kitchen and away from the staircase. She turns around and sees him look at her holding his hand and he gives her this really seductive, sexy up and down look. After Merub sees Murtasim's reaction, her tone changes.

Merub: [in a very obviously flirting and seducing tone] coffee banane chalein..mein aur tum

..

..

End scene

First, Murtasim was already willingly going with Merub so she was able to successfully distract him even before the flirting. So, there was no reason for her to pretend to do something she did not want to do. Second, it is only AFTER she sees Murtasim look at her like that she gets all flirty herself. She clearly enjoys his romantic attention, saw how turned on he was, and her flirting was meant to get him (even more) riled up. Every other time where Merub has flirted with Murtasim (e.g. fish and kheer episodes), we see her flirting MO is to turn up the charm from zero to a thousand and get Murtasim really worked up. The point is that Merub looked like she was into the flirting and it was not a pretense meant to distract only as she had already achieved that goal even before.

Even in the kitchen, the coffee flirting scene had interesting contrasts to the joshanda flirting scene. In the joshanda scene in the kitchen, it was Murtasim who was doing all the flirting and Merub was the one who was getting flustered. In the coffee scene in the kitchen, it was Merub who did the flirting and Murtasim was the one getting worked up. I don't trust the writers and director enough to say that this was meant to illustrate some sort of relationship progression, but the whole flirting sequence definitely read like a let's turn the tables [what if M/M switch roles] type ka cute scene and not fake flirting meant to only distract.

If he thinks that she did this purposefully then he doesn't deserve her. He should know better by now. That would be dumb but I'm afraid that's how he will proceed.

Could it be that meerab takes off much later with the baby and it's for few months? And he is looking for them? That would be better.

I think the head writer at 7th sky is hugely responsible for the details and dialogues of the plot. It's a mess. You can tell a lot of ptv directors and writers grew up in the 80s and 90s and literally spew the Bollywood they saw. They cannot imagine Netflix level of quality. Or rather they can but choose not to. Just fix the script and editing. There are super talented directors and actors. The other technical things can be learned. Ptv is known for amazing shows but I feel production houses like 7th sky are literally cancerous with their approach.

The audience has evolved with how the critic they work. That's good but there's a huge population that refuses to come out of the ITV "thapar rotation for 7 episodes" phase.
