I think eventually everyone involved in an ITV production becomes complacent, makers because the same lame plot is hammered and people are left with no choice but to keep watching, the audiences eventually accept that the storytelling format is never gonna change. Some like us wean off or steer clear.
Personally, I was averse to ITV and fortunately no one around me ever watched any EK serials, I discovered Iqbal Khan in this show for the first time, haven't seen any of his previous works, so I feel horrible to be lured into a promising story that perhaps is going to crash anytime..
I remember the backlash How I met your mother received after the big reveal.. it is normal to express disappointment after you are following something so ardently. The best of TV shows in the west have had sub plots that did not resonate with audiences but the overall execution is so good that it's easier to let go and savor the experience.
Here right from wardrobe to technicalities such as editing are unpleasant (post wedding sequence), leave alone the plot details and dialogues.
One good thing that comes across is that the lead actors don't seem to have given up, yet. We can see them putting effort and delivering.
