Speaking of Kapil Dev, I think Kapil's action was one of the reason he could never become a fast bowler unlike say Srinath or even Raju kulkarni, though Kulkarni was a bit wayward. It is said that Kapil was a bit faster when he debuted but no where is it mentioned that he was a fast bowler and by the time I saw him he was termed as a swing bowler.

@Mishkil If I remember correct, Azhar had a sensational debut, What I liked most about Azhar was his uncanny ability to get on the top of a high ball and flick it to the leg side. Tendulkar would also do it later but he would do it for balls closer to off stump. I had seen Azhar flick almost chest high balls way outside off stump, almost wide, to the leg side and that too along the ground. Others would cut such balls square of the wicket toward gully or point, this guy hit it down the leg side. And the bat was also quite lose in his hand, I guess that gave him more control and manueverability
