At this point the thing which I like the most about Tere bin is the refreshing hero they showcased. Honestly I don't remember a hero like Murtasim portrayed on pak tv before. It's his character which makes me ignore all the flaws and illogical things of the show. I'm not someone who roots for meerasim chemistry too much. As a couple I like them on-screen but it's Murtasim's character which makes me wait and watch this serial.
If Murtasim was a character who was toxic and Meerab was head strong, I don't think I would have watched this serial, because despite Meerab being a girl with self respect, she isn't a heroine I'll idealize or want to become like one. I prefer heroines like Halima sultan, which were the true epitome of grace and intelligence.
Meerab's character might have been poorly written, the drama script has multiple flaws and loopholes, the direction isn't something very top notch, but still I'll always remember Tere bin as a serial which introduced us to a flawed, grey hero.
I loved how the writer focused on Murtasim's character and carved his characteristics, she wrote him in a way which allowed the viewers to deeply connect with him.
It wasn't only Murtasim who explored the journey of love, sacrifice and passion, instead he forced the viewers to accompany him with the diversity of layers and shades of his character.
From episode 1 till episode 29 the development of Murtasim's character couldn't be ignored. I deeply enjoyed watching a powerful feudal sacrificing without showing, accepting powerlessness in love without hesitation and making the world know the worth of the woman he love for whom he could go beyond, for whom he could live and die for.
I loved that the writer wrote the greyness of his character in a balanced way where we could understand that if he is wrong why he is wrong and how he redeems. The fact that Murtasim despite being a confident young man holds insecurities for the woman he loves adds a reality to his character and differentiates him from the usual narcissism we get from the male leads.
I also loved the fact that where Meerab was rewarded with Murtasim's love, Murtasim had to earn her love and he does it without letting go of his self respect or taking the route of coercion.
Murtasim Khan is straight out of fantasy who has deep layers, sensitive and soft heart, angry boy attitude, cool flirtious nature, emotional depth and understanding, dry sarcasm and last but not the least passionate love and care.
I grew up watching stories written from female point of view and I always wondered as to why they neglects the role of a man in a society. I'm glad that this drama highlights that how much a man struggles to keep his family and their honour safe.
Many might find my thoughts as mysogynistic but it's simply the opinion of a girl who grew up watching a father who endlessly showers love on his daughters, protects women's respect as his own. I have witnessed plenty of bad men and also women, so I always wished to watch a serial where they could show that a man also plays has a positive role in the world too.
I found Wahaj Ali's acting in Jo bichar gaye way too good and he just proved his versatility even more through Murtasim and Saad. I guess any other actors portrayal of Murtasim would have made him look cold and toxic, but Wahaj Ali has phenomenally brought the softness and vulnerability through his attitude and eyes which makes me feel for that character more than any other character of the show.
Murtasim Khan would always be remembered in the history of pak tv serials.
