Meerab gave him the choice to decline the contract and call off the wedding. It was his CHOICE to sign it and maker her his wife even if it came with conditions.

It is his choice to pursue his wife endlessly, in hopes of reciprocation, he knows he is not getting the same in return, still it remains his CHOICE to not give up.

It is his choice to keep this marriage, because it is a fact, the moment he wants to get done with her and the marriage, he CAN and no one will question him, because as a man, he has that agency. Again CHOICE.

His mother is asking him to divorce her, if she does not give him the rights of a husband, again the CHOICE is his to make.

Loving her is his choice. This suffering in hopes to get her love back is also his choice.

the only choice Meerab has had during all her important life decisions is the access to her own body, which she achieved through the contract. Nothing else.

Conclusion: He is in a more powerful position than her, when looking with a pragmatic perspective.

Emotionally, she has the upper hand over him

Very put well put together

Who asked her how she felt knowing her parents are not actually her parents and she's the blood and flesh of the family she disliked all along?

When has she laughed wholeheartedly (golgappa was another story, good food makes you giddy) or lived life to the fullest and with her own wish? The khet scene where she ran after baby goats was her moment with herself which landed her in a tragic situation, because her husband had enemies waiting for his wife. Her walima dance and bam! She was slapped, infront of all, as a bride.

The moment Murtasim is away from her, she gets harmed, by either his own people or his enemies, thrown out for an accident she didn't do, kidnapped and what not.

Her whole life is as upturned and in a hell, as you would think his is.

But what no one notices, is that he is A MAN, who has agency, while she as a woman has none.

Even the agency of divorce rests on him. He can do whatever he wills and everyone will accord. Same isn't the case with her.

In a realistic situation, she would have ended up in a major identity crisis and completely unavailable emotionally, most likely depression and self-loathing.

Pfft. Here, she has obviously shut herself up. Cold. Apathetic. Rude. Indifferent.

Still beautifully flawed.

P.S. caught up a part of SH review, where Hassan says they have turned Meerab 'daaghdar' and it is so enraging when flawed female characters are so quickly put into labels and brackets. They indirectly deprived her of good character, which is again, quite judgmental for a show still on-air. And even if she has some shades of grey, why is she unacceptable? Men are given ample chances. No chances are given to women to reflect and redeem. all of them deserve abla naaris of heroines, who are just available to romance their heroes. Nothing beyond that. Pissed.

👏👏👏

She has nothing to give at the moment. It's always a terror or chaos hanging over her in different forms. If murtasim becomes a literal saint she still is not obliged to reciprocate his love. She needs to be mentally emotionally stable first. Be happy and feel safe. She needs a home of her own where there are no buts and ifs. She shouldn't be dependent on her parents, husband and kids or anyone else.

i think this is what meerab always wanted. Not faltu ki I'm going clubbing and going to spend a million dollars on make up kind of thing. She wanted the basic autonomy of not being in a position where her shelter and basic needs won't be met if she said no to something ridiculous. Like how her parents threw her out just over nothing. This is what all girls wants. But this is shown by the writer and director as zid or anaa or being badtamez.

The goal of everyone else is just to control her one way or other and then ask why she is unhappy when she's forced to do things that hurt her soul.

Why did she say Yes to marriage in first place ?
Why give him choice of contract when she could have still said No and walk away!!
Why when she had choice to leave with Waqas after accident didn’t she go back?

Why not use Khula to walk away ?

I know phir there won’t be any serial only!

In itv we have male leads like arnav, rk, who acted as jerk towards fl because they had bad past. They do worse things than just being 'rude'. Still they are accepted. Because they are MALE LEADS.

But female lead can't even have basic human flaws.

There is difference between criticising her behaviour and outright shaming her for the things she never deserved.

It's irony people can't digest meerab wanting to meet her male friend who has feelings for her.

They literally character assassinate her for it.

And the same people had no problem when murtasim let haya touch him, sit on his bed, feed him, enter his private space not one time but many times.

This is when he claims to love his wife.

I am not even including what he did with haya last week in the name of helping her.

Male lead can be given 100 chances but how dare fl get chance.

Hassan, in very obvious terms, has put Meerab's 'character' in the dubious zone. A low-key shame at her for 'entertaining' a male friend, she does not even have feelings for.

What if she really loved someone from college, dreamt of a life with him and they forced her into marriage? Even the most gem of husband couldn't have made her forget her love then.

You can call it bad writing in this show's case, but no, that is how things work in our society, for both fictional or real woman. No margins of error given. Straight up character certificate.

Not a single flaw accepted.

Only cardboard female leads allowed.

(This is not only about Meerab, about all female main characters in general)

Very well put!!! Meerab was never given any choice.. and thats whats bothering her. The marriage, the Khan family responsibilities, the panchayat for woman.. everything was simply put on her.. no one ever asked do you want to do this.. they ALL just assumed its good for her and she will be happy..

Until she herself chooses Murtasim, she will never be able to let go of her past.

I dont like rohail’s track at all, but i see why he was brought into the picture. Meerab will choose Murtasim over Rohail.. and i hope she leaves to karachi alone and gets time to think..

Like many said, Meerab is the most misunderstood character.. and thats sadly the writer’s fault. In order to show Murtasim as mahan and up high, she couldnt do justice with Meerab.

People acting like meerab made murtasim love her on gun point, and she is responsible for his heartbreak.

As u said it was his choice to love meerab. He knew it won't be a smooth ride. It's praiseworthy what he is doing for love.

But meerab no where responsible for it. She is behaving with him the way she used to behave with him since childhood.

Murtu behaviour suddenly changed post marriage.

But she can't. We viewers ourselves got doubt whether his love is fake or real in initial episodes.

Then why can't she take time to understand whether his feelings r real or not.

She said how should I take my step forward during confrontation.

It shows that she wants to step forward but something is stopping her.

Compared to meerab, murtasim is definitely in better position. Because he has the power to be decision maker.

Some may say meerab was also given choice when her adopted parents asked her to come to karachi.

No. That same adopted parents told her u don't come to karachi if u want to meet rohail.

They didn't say u come to karachi, but don't meet rohail for ur own sake instead they outrightly said u don't come.

She has such people who can abandon her at any time.

From maa begum to mariyum everyone responsible for haya harming meerab physically.

Because every person in that house knows how much haya hates meerab, how she leaves no chance to torture meerab with her words/actions.

No one cared. If it was other family, they would have thrown haya out of the house the moment she raised fingers on meerab character when they know haya is a woman who is openly lusting on married man.

But it took meerab to get injured to make them send haya out of the house ( she will come back too).

Such a sad truth right!!! A man can gave “daag” on his kirdar and its fully acceptable and its expected for the woman to forgive and forget.

But a woman can do no wrong and even before she is about to do something wrong.. she is already labeled.

No no, it was clarified with the writer that his chahat was like a dream or passion he had to let go.. not a person. Also sometimes the translations are not accurate 😂
