Absolutely. There's a series of books on these women of the Ramayana by Kavita Kane. Urmila 's story is one of them.

Both usually... it's like any religious ritual... men hoist the gudi, ladies perform Pooja. But it's not so strict that Sai can't do alone.

Gudi is considered a female deity. So it's given all those characteristics like you would to a goddess. Hence the lady of the house performs the Pooja.
