Maybe it could work better now

in 2012 he said he thought this film would be his munna bhai

If it were released in theaters today it could have been a surprise hit. It's completely original for starters. Not a remake. It also has good performances. It had The Office vibe to it. This would work today.

It was barely marketed in 2012, so it could maybe do better. But I am inclined to think it is more suited to streaming. It's not loud in the way Munnabhai is, and the general mood of the film is very low-key.
