Then, when Ma Begum suddenly announces their marriage, he is not super shocked or upset just taken aback and mainly keeps looking at Meerab to assess how she’d react. Then he walks to her after everyone leaves. Meanwhile Meerab does not look at him at all and then walks away in anger. It is after all this that he storms into his room- not because he is angry at the alliance but because Meerab snubs him.

I made a long post before but there are several dialogues that hint at a previous attraction to Meerab. In addition to your other points:

- when Meerab recovers from her accident and says I keep running from you but you keep finding a way to bother me. He says, mashallah yadaash achi hai

- Meri sari fikre tumse judi hai

- does not want to marry Meerab only because she is refusing

- tells Anwar he is refusing marriage because he is saving her from his Qaid which was true. He most likely had to give up his dreams and does not want free-spirited Meerab to do the same

- he is plain savage at her birthday party. He acts like an insane jealous, possessive boyfriend. He stuffs cake in Rohail for gods sake. Lmao. This was either bad direction/story telling or he was truly jealous and angry. Same guy who tells Anwar a day prior Meerab and her family are unrelated to us so why do we worry about them so much

the engagement episode had a lot of fun tit for tat moments. When his mother made the announcement his initial reaction is shock, then trepidation over how she is feeling. He looks on sadly, when she takes off the bangle and walks away then he gets angry his ego is hurt.

In the tea scene in the room when he holds her hand and says he will not marry her because she is not worth it, meerub ego is hurt that he believes she is not good enough for him.

These two characters think very highly of themselves, so the fact that the other person rejects them is more infuriating than the actual marriage lolzzzzz

i think the anger at the cake cutting scene when he picks her up at the friends place is more she first rejects his call, then he is treated like an errand boy lozzzzz maybe he is got better things to do. Then at the cake cutting at the haveli he stands back to let her first see the surprise gives her space shows his manners. I kind of laughed at him checking his watch at the end before the bomb dropped, yeah like can I leave now. Whatever he feels for her is it hidden longing, or anger at her defiance of him, it is never indifference.
