alright guys and girls. Serious discussion time. Focus
ITV does not know or perhaps don't want to write nuanced grey characters. They have made Ehsan completely black when he spiked viaan's drink, and his try hard attitude towards katha did not make him any more endearing to the audience. those 2-3 weeks of filler episodes focused on ehsaan did a number on his character graph. now he is just plain unlikeable. I wonder if cv's realize how badly they screwed him over in an effort to drag the show.
.
Ehsan made it clear to viaan that he is serious about katha. They may not be an ideal couple in the long run and he understands nothing about her. but he is serious for now. When Viaan and katha get together or he makes a move towards her, can we blame ehsaan for being angry? he will feel betrayed, hurt and angry. His thoughts would be that viaan knew he was interested in katha but he still went ahead, so all bets are off. Just objectively speaking, can we see where he is coming from?
as you know, I keep writing about the Gfamily. even have another thread on them. hahahaha... my point is that I enjoy side characters and have no problem with them being grey -- makes it more interesting to me. I even enjoy villains because their dynamics can be fun to dissect as well. that said, ehsaan is still of a mess and mystery.
even when it comes to friendship between ehsaan and viaan, we have been getting two versions of the same story.
-- according to ehsaan, viaan grew up lonely with no other friends other than ehsaan to hold his hand. with over enthu cutlet keith as a school friend that viaan helps out, we realize that story is pretty bogus because viaan knew how to have relationships with people of wide circle.
-- according to ehsaan, viaan had a drunk phase in college. viaan instead says that it was ehsaan who used to party away and viaan was the sober one bringing him home.
-- according to ehsaan, viaan is khadoos and ehsaan has to do the job of mending bridges and taking care of the company. however, if we listen to jeetu bhai, it is quite clear that viaan has his own way of doing things for the employees quietly and people know and appreciate viaan for it.
-- according to ehsan, he is sincere in love. however, ehsaan has had multiple flings and relationships over the years where he falls quickly into love and quickly out of love. basically he is all about the chase and everyone including his mother farah knows him.
so we still don't have a complete picture of ehsaan at all. all we know -- ehsaan comes across as the insecure friend leech. otherwise, we don't have much depth to him.
for me, when it comes to feeling for a grey character or at least understanding them a bit, I need a sense of the character. with papaG, I immediately got him because I have met characters like that in real life and aware of real life family conflicts and how it plays out. so my reactions to him were much different from many members here. even small characters like yuviraj and reet feel far more fleshed out in their insecurities that you get their negative behaviour. I don't have to think about their motivations or drive -- it is very obvious.
with ehsaan, I don't have a sense of who he is. we don't know his family history or dynamics. how did the family fare about viraj's death? what happened to the company? how did salim die? how old was ehsaan? how did the family cope? when did viaan and ehsaan take over the company? at what point did they decide to keep it going rather than exiting and making something of their own? why are farah and ehsaan worried about potentially running a company on their own? is this something they want to do eventually??
we haven't gotten one true scene that tells us in a few minutes who ehsaan is at his core and what drives him. everything feels flakey and like PR without substance. there are lots of pieces to the puzzle we haven't gotten yet. it may be intentional by the makers where they are purposely writing a long drawn out growth arc for ehsaan but that would require some serious writing chops. so to answer your question on whether I can see where he is coming from, it would depend on the writing. right now, I still don't know who he is.
