I watched todays episode, it started as a continuation of yesterdays tasting.
Nayan’s dish looked beautiful. They said that the chutneys tasted strong. As far as I know North East Indian food does have peculiar and strong flavours. Maybe that was his intent.
Priyanka - honestly her plate didn’t look good, but her description of the dish sounded interesting, something different. She didn’t play safe and it backfired on her. Though it seemed like the judges were giving zabardasti ka negative comments. I mean they exaggerated. But of course I didn’t taste it, so no comments.
Kamaldeep - off late it seems she can do no wrong. I didn’t think the dish was out of the world by listening to the description, taste of course is a different matter. It was a pandan flavoured kheer, topped with some bajra (made like Daliya) panjiri and spun sugar. In my opinion it would maybe be too sweet. The panjiri reminded judges of home - of course they’re all Punjabis. Anything traditional KDK makes will remind them of home and win her brownie points! Maybe next time they shouldn’t have all Punjabi judges.
Todays challenge - the family members got an ingredient for the contestants. It was nice to see everyone’s family, and they were all emotional. They barely focused on Sachin’s mum. Even when she came to help, they didn’t go upto her and talk (or wasn’t aired), while a lot of screen time was given to Sardarji (as they call KDK’s husband). The others got a little screen time.
Family members got ingredients that the contestants like and would be able to cook well.
Aruna - husband and children brought coconut
Nayanjyoti - father and another male family member brought fermented soya beans (used as a condiment, don’t remember the name). It’s apparently tricky to use. Wish they brought something else.
Suvarna - husband and children brought fish.
Deepa - husband brought sorrel mushroom
Sachin - mother brought chicken
Gurkirat - parents and sister brought berries (strawberry, blueberry, raspberry and blackberry)
Shanta - husband brought a local kind of cilantro
Kamaldeep - her husband and son brought AMUL chocolate
Aruna is making appam and stew and some vegetable preparation.
Nayanjyoti is making a stuffed chicken pie flavored with his ingredient.
Deepa is making a morrel pulao and shaadi Ki bhaji (a vegetable cooked on the day of a Sindhi wedding without onion, garlic or ginger)
Sachin is making a butter chicken but his gravy will have a roasted pepper base.
Gurkirat is making a knafeh inspired dessert. From what we see is that he’s making a vermicelli nest.
Shanta is making a fish crusted with bread crumbs, Parmesan and the special cilantro.
Kamaldeep is making a chocolate cake with chocolate ganache and a peanut caramel praline.
Suvarna is making a Maharashtrian style fish.
From the precap we see Aruna’s appams are giving her trouble. Two batches haven’t turned out great, but she’ll still be safe.
Kamaldeep has trouble with her ganache and the judges tell her that some water has gotten into it, but she’ll still be safe.
It seems like Nayanjyotis pastry is undercooked, they like Sachins dish but something is missing (for the judges he’s never good enough).
