Haven't seen that scene properly. That one didn't seem lust. It was longing & yearning type. He was emotional & his eyes were wet.

I think one of the best heart eyes was that scene both were in white outfits the day he stopped Sai from leaving with police force ko khadi kar dunga dialogue, he was checking her reaction to gauge het feelings for him by talking about his death. He was very good in those scenes/days. Nowadays it's basic. I don't see much difference with Sai/Pakhi or any other woman. Back then the distinguish was very stark in his soft looks & heart eyes for Sai and other woman or his other female family members. He doesn't try enough now or puts effort.

heart eyes are different from lusty eyes. Yes you are right. In hospital scene initially they were longing and all. But when she was looking at his eyes, it becomes little deeper. Sai lost control with the torch.
