I will share a story I heard on radio years ago which I thought would have made an interesting drama. so this lady ended up having a one night stand with her brother-in-law. all of a sudden her husband died in accident and she was in deep depression. her brother-in-law is about 10 years older than her, divorced but was close to his younger brother. so he was trying to look out and would keep checking in on her to make sure she was alright. one night, him trying to comfort her while she was bawling ended up with both of them spending the night. as the lady put it, was super confusing because it wasn't unpleasant and threw both of them for a curveball. while the husband had been very alive, it had been a very formal relationship with distance. that night obviously changed their dynamic.

fast forward a year later, the brother-in-law was now head over feels for her and wanted to marry her. she meanwhile is just confused, feeling guilty and freaking out about what people would say. so she had written to the radio station to ask what she should do and it was interesting to hear very different views from listeners. some thought the brother-in-law took advantage of her. others thought they just bonded over their grief. some were like it is fine to go for a new relationship but just make sure you are ready. many were quite sympathetic to her.

like you and others have mentioned, katha was hardly in the right frame of mind to enjoy the night given her stress over aarav. but then neither was this lady from the radio story. so what happened that night? thats why I was thinking of something like 5% where it wasn't awkward on some level. hence the very domestic vibe between viaan and katha since the night...

I have only one confusion

IC just don’t happens like stories esp when some one has a soul mate .

How can it be !

Either husband or wife / partner was unable to satisfy sexual needs of the other!

The story you told both should be at fault being in a relationship and having sex out side it is very complicated character issue!

It is not like those scenes for some movies “ rain, thunder , or light went off kind of scenario ...It is simple cheating when husband no more , then they can get marry .

She feeling guilty is not needed since it was simply cheating ! If he had raped then it would have been a diff story !

Coming to Katha

Katha went to ONS knowing that what she is going to face .! Viaan was very polite and gentle he even was hoping she would walk out asked her no need to pursue it if not comfortable !

Yes there could be a weired connection between them !

Women have different sexuality than men where they can just withstand sex without feeling any thing .

There incidents where they just take their consciousness or soul out of the situation ! My thinking is that Viaan was gentle and considerate ( definitely enjoyed ) but Katha didn’t !

I mean when the child is facing death no woman with sanity will be in a mood for it !!!!

That is one reason Katha take it “ very hurtful “ but Viaan now trapped . He feels Katha he already awe of her , he needs or love her to be around him.

Now Katha is not thinking of Viaan’s point of view it is all about her ! Slowly once the son is back to normalcy she will start thinking about Viaan's perspectives

Slowly they will understand each other better

This one part which is great about Indian version

emotional connection, depth of the leads , their feelings guilt , blaming self & each other , trauma and hatred , every thing is a way more complicated .. I am loving this !

Viaan at times behaved over dramatic because of this inner conflict ... every inch of his body wants convey what he wants to say !

Katha slowly will feel a pull towards Viaan sooner or later so that story will progress , hopefully the marriage will by stormy as it is suppose to be !

rose: just to clarify -- there was no cheating in that radio story. basically this one night stand happened about a year after the husband died. prior to the one night stand, neither had ever had such thoughts about each other and it had been very formal and proper. she also indicated that in their community, there was no culture rules that she can't marry her brother-in-law as they were both considered single. that is why the brother-in-law was proposing to her and saying lets get married. at this point of her writing in, it was already 2 years since her husband had passed. but she was still confused, afraid of what others would say especially her in-laws. however, he was confident that he would handle everything and wanted to be responsible for her.

coming to katha, it is unclear how she views sex outside of marriage, whether she is conservative or religous or romantic. and how those feelings and values affect how she views what happened between them. the reason it gets confusing is that she calls it paap and says he will suffer but at the same time, she is not afraid of him and she is not disgusted by him either. there is a clear domestic vibe between them when they fight. that is hard to decipher as well. so we need more monologues from katha on what she thinks about viaan and that night.

Mango, the lady in your story was seeking comfort and she got it. I can still see her going ahead with it and even enjoying it. But Katha was walking into that hotel room with a clear agenda. Do the deed and get the money. She was fighting the biggest battle of her life, so even if there was a spark she would have missed it. She also would have missed the tenderness (If any) displayed by Viaan. She would not have processed the fact that he was being gentle towards her, taking care of her (if he really did all that).

Going with your theory about the spark, Viaan would have been more conscious of it. He would have felt it and it would have muddled his head. I still don't think enjoy is the right word for what Viaan must have felt..but it certainly messed with his head and he started feeling possessive, curious etc towards Katha from the next morning.

Interesting Discussion.

from whatever little we got of that scene, Viaan was very gentle towards Katha. yes he was disappointed she came but there was affection mixed in as well.

Whereas for katha....i don't know. Her mind was on aarav so perhaps she did not think about anything else. Human emotions are complex and it is hardly ever straightforward. Yes, the circumstances were messed up but is she blocking out certain parts of the night because she is confused by it? Maybe Viaan's touches did not repel her but made her feel something she cannot name?

yea I agree with you; this drama is grey that there are no right words to really describe the situation which is why we are sort of trying to weed through. I am not sure one night stand applies because it is a deal but since we have no other way of describing, we use ONS. so enjoy isn't the right word for either of them but what I was trying to convey that rather then the physical, it is the emotional and ethical aspects of what happened is what they are struggling with. so on some level, it may not have been unplesant physically because otherwise, the focus would have been on that. so maybe there was a spark or maybe there wasn't. but the domestic vibe between the two of them during their fights really did surprise me which got me thinking -- what exactly happened that night? it is't just viaan acting possessive and curious but katha fights with him like she has the right to glare at him and tell him off.

Okay, This!! Yes, I agree with you on this. I was very very surprised to see her fight that way with him. Ek Dum haq se she lashes out at him which makes me feel a lot of things 😆

Pomegranate has also said that maybe Katha was confused by the fact that she didn't feel repelled by Viaan's touch. This is close enough to what you have been saying mango. But I would like to disagree..hear me out. She did flinch and try to step away from his touch but that made him step back too. He asked her if she's uncomfortable with this. Katha panicked because this was her last resort..she needed that money. At this point she built up her shield..built up her defenses and went ahead with it.

So, I am finding it very difficult to even tread the line of attraction from Katha's side.

Just to add to what I have written above, I said flinch and not repel. She was uncomfortable but not disgusted by his touch. Just to make my pov clear.

Oh ok😆

Then why she wants to feel guilty !

She should settle down the man who loves her if she likes him

Right!

Katha is suppose to be a modern woman who doesn’t really follow tradition according to the way she appear .

She is not afraid of him now , initially she was a bit awkward ! A bit vary of him .

Of course there is domestic vibe !

Katha look like not afraid any thing or any one including Viaan .

“ Paap “ dialogue is a bit funny since we didn’t witness any break down from Katha unlike OG

There the woman tear apart the black dress she wore for “ black night “ She cries , breaks down wandering through the streets !

Katha is all one sided blaming every thing at “

Viaan”... As if he raped her , she looks like conveniently forgot about Viaan’s money that what ever dirty way saved her son in time !

I don’t really like that part of her character

She blames and accuses him as if “ He raped her “ what she got put of it not saying

Hope we will get more of her thinking

It is always “ blaming Viaan”who didn’t know the truth behind but he was “ vulgar and indecent “

But at the end of the day “ both of them” are equal partners that is why Katha’s “ blaming only Viaan for every ” makes me feel like she too is judgmental and biased to Viaan.

No way Viaan in great but I can’t hate him

🤣🤣

so I wouldn't say there was a line of attraction. uncomfortable yes but not disgusted. basically that it wasn't physically unpleasant. we only saw the beginning. we did not see what happened later and neither did we hear from a conversation or their thoughts about it.

all we got was: viaan was offended that she left without looking back. that itself is odd unless he felt something. why was he so bothered about that? maybe he felt that she wasn't repulsed by his touch and her running out of the room confused him. or perhaps there was unexpected spark and so he felt hurt that she didn't even look at him or say anything when she left.

we need crime patrol type internal monologues. nothing very explicit but where they explain why the dynamic has changed after unexpected one night stand. smiley36

I really don't get how she lashes out at him. while her words are very cutting as addressing a stranger and makes sense, her body language and emotional language is a total contrast. in many ways, it sounds like she is yelling at a husband or a boyfriend. there is a definite haq to the way she glares at him. everything about their vibe when they fight and interact has a very domestic vibe. so that is why I come back to the night and wonder what happened....
