There is a bit of Pride & Prejudice here, Viaan is severely prejudiced and Katha is (justifiably, given her struggles) too proud & hurt by his prejudice to explain to him.
He is obviously interested in her, misjudged her grossly due to his prejudice, then began to realise & regret but he had done too much damage and now her pride & hurt won’t allow him an opening. He wants to believe in her, almost does already, & is figuratively begging/provoking her to debunk his judgement.
She was not completely unaffected by him, that is why she was all the more angry & hurt by his judging her as a gold-digger, and hurt/anger (we call it vairagya or indignated detachment) that is making her say to hell with u, think what u want, stew in your bakwas, I am not going to correct u, buffoon.
