I think all the points you raise have been discussed in the EDT by many people. I will just state what I like about the show.
End of the day, we must in our moral standards have the ability to demarcate. To me the ML is a immoral man, he is in no way a victim and in no way can he be excused for his behavior. To me the FL is a a very courageous woman who has made a questionable choice but has immense clarity on it. She is a victim of her circumstance, not his victim.
In fact, I have said this before, I may be in the minority, I don’t want him to be forgiven, unless he has walked through burning coals.
In my personal life, I have worked with sex workers, I have learned a lot about what does empowerment truly mean for these women. They have helped me understand that end of the day a transaction must also be honored. My friend even represented a sex worker who was raped, a male colleague said “Arrey what was she expecting?” That is where our moral standards are reduced to.
Yes, I do hope on Twitter and other SM, the ML is not being made into a hero because now he is going through some moral dilemma. The fact is he came from a point of privilege- both as a boss and as a man, he should have known better. But that’s why he is not a hero. I want his friend at some point to call him out on it.
For me fiction, no matter what genre is a suspension of reality, now the quality of fiction or how much we can relate, will determine how much leeway can be given. The day we have a track where the guy just says sorry and all is forgiven, for me the show ends.
I urge you to read the EDT discussions, they have been really good, lots more here discuss these issues way better!
