I have a very loving father and a doting mother. My dad is extremely progressive so is my husband so I sometimes forget how oppressive society is. I was talking to a friend today afternoon who left india with her husband after marriage. She had to elope and get married luckily her then boyfriend understood quite early that unke ghar wale ( both families) unke khoon ke sach mein pyase ho jayeinge.. These guys are also on the verge of breaking up. My friends husbands blames himself for the fate of his younger brother. By the way both families are Hindus only inter caste marriage is the issue. Then we all know about Nitish Katata. These are not one or two cases it happens every day. People like me find these dramas ott and Not relatable but when you look deeper into the society itâs all too real even today.

I have a friend who wanted to marry a non Marathi boy her batch-mate and both of them were MBBS, MS. Girl is obgyn and boy is orthopedic surgeon. Her father told her if she marries that guy or even try to elope with him he would shot himself to death. The girl did not dare. Few years later, she took a transfer very far. Many years she stayed there, both did not marry anyone else. after long time her father let her marry but did not attend her marriage, did not go to her house, he still does not visit her, but she goes to see her mom. But her husband does not go to her Parents house. Last time when I met her she was still hurt ki father se relation patch up nahi hua and was crying in our journey on the train. Funny is in all this her father is okay getting medical help from them.
