He might also have meant that there were certain hads that were established when they got register- married. It was only to enable adoption. Not for real marriage. And Pakhi also probably acted like she was just doing it to help him out. V being an insensitive and selfish person wouldn't have thought long-term of what it may be for Pakhi to be tied up in a non-marriage. As for himself he was going to stay celibate till death bcz his only love was dead and he knew he wasn't going to be interested in anyone else. That's why when in the beginning of post leap when BK says you should now think of giving heir to this house, they showed V apologising to P about it bcz she must have felt awkward and assures her that he isn't thinking anything like that. And that sneaky fraud acts as if she was being very tolerant. But now Pakhi is crossing those boundaries that defined their 'marriage' from its conception and V is saying he will still observe those boundaries..no matter how many times she says beds alag hain, dil alag hain. I think the reason he says P will remain his wife is bcz he thinks Sai has moved on from him and is not interested in him anymore. She's said it more than once that he is nobody to her. And she's been acting like she's just fine with his marriage to P. As we saw him wondering unhappily before ke Sai ko koi farak nahi padta? In the beginning he was coming on like the wronged husband and demanding answers from her.. But when she established that they are strangers to each other, he has given up to being tied to P. And when he came to know of Savi, it probably got emphasised even more that Sai doesn't want him bcz inspite of having his child she's kept herself away and also kept the identity of the child hidden. Virat is really brawn and very less brain. He probably isn't even able to think out in his own mind all these complicated emotions he has. It's easiest for him to linearly take up some farz and stick to it.
