@Atomins: We are not better than them that’s not what I was claiming. They are the generation trying to force people to call them “IT” saying they don’t identify with humans and feel they are animals. We are the generation that’s so afraid to say or do anything therefore enabling it further. Making mental illness cool and trendy instead of helping these kids seek the help they so desperately need. As I said I blame society and times.

Gen Z definitely has more expectations on content. And I bet they laugh at garbage of 90s and 2000s over which people fight or lousy actors became superstars over whom people fight and kill time.

Gen Z is demanding and gets tired of BS. I am glad they rejected craps of Ranveer, Ranbir, Varun, Sid etc too when they were fed up.

They have better standards and more options. What is insipid or fake about them? They are better informed and more confident and have better exposure to global issues and info, content compared to past lot.

Honestly even several Insta, Tik tok and YT content creators today are better than overrated stars and makers of past or duffer plastic star kids shoved in our faces by yesteryear stars.

My overall impression is that Bollywood is the last place Gen Z can have their expectations met.

Millennial here. I personally love the Gen Z. I love the change they’re creating in the world in their own little ways.

I cannot agree more. Everything has to have a label according to them. I once beta read for a Gen Z Mumbaikar.

The character was apparently asexual because she didn't like sex with her boyfriends.

I asked her how the character arrived at that decision. I mean the boyfriends could've been bad at it. Did she go to a doctor to confirm? Did she have no interest in sex at all or simply not enjoy it?

There was a side character who was aromantic. Middle aged woman in an arranged marriage with a hubby she's not attracted to. I'm like dude, that's not exactly a label worthy event in a country where 80% of marriages are still arranged. The lady never got a chance to decide for herself.

Girl flew into a frothing rage. Apparently, she based the asexual main character on herself.

I just gave up after that. But I heard she posted in a Facebook group of writers afterward, all frantic because she got the hots for a boy, and her work was no longer #ownvoices.

I enjoyed the 2 minutes of laughter I had over it. 😆

Nor was it an isolated incident.

Those who validate Gen Z's little humps in life with the label they give themselves is encouraging them on their way to poor mental health. There is no incentive to work through a bad patch to a healthier life. They just decide that's how I am and how I will remain until I die.

By God! There are people who actually are asexual and aromantic. Little twits simply borrow the label to get validation. To use one of their own terms, appropriation of the worst kind.

Eta. A Gen Y friend took a Buzzfeed quiz and decided she was autistic although her doctor disagreed. As someone with an autistic family member, I was more than slightly angry.

Talking about mental illness does not mean it is made cool and trendy.

I am glad people are finally opening up and having these convos bravely and honestly instead of bottling it up ans pretending all is fine.

They seek required help through qualified therapists anyway and it is good nowadays we have SM pages and podcasts, helplines, YouTube channels, FB pages and blogs of top therapists freely available online.

And a lot of good support groups as well as mental health services available through video calls in case one has no good therapist available around own city or location.

Quite callous to claim discussing mental health on SM is making it trendy and cool.

I'm someone who takes pride and firmly believes every human should live as they wish. I have no issue with whatever makes people happy that's why I lean towards "left" than right (I don’t like labels), but I can’t be okay with what's happening in our society today. It's one thing to live your life and be happy and another to try and force people to validate your feelings 24/7. I don't want to live in a society where I risk jail time because someone's feelings are hurt because I addressed them as a man/woman when they look like a certain biological gender and put no effort into actually transitioning. I don’t want to live in a society where parents are forcing schools to treat their own children as animals because the kid thinks she/he is a cat. The "Let's make everyone happy by validating their feelings 24/7" is getting completely out of hand.

mental health, these labels, etc, have become a trend and a cool train to board, and anyone who even questions anything will be brought to their knees. No one can have a say, even if it involves kids that's the part I hate the most, and I don't care what anyone says or whoever flows into a rage; kids shouldn’t be involved in this mess.
