Handshakes all round. Ireland win by 5 runs. This is a massive result; not only is it an upset but this victory from Ireland throws this group wide open. There is something about this encounter in a World Cup that gets the best out of Ireland. They started positively by taking on the England pacers and though they lost their way towards the end, Balbirnie and Co. had done enough to get a par total. Joshua Little then gave them the perfect start by getting rid of the openers in his first two overs, while Fionn Hand bowled a jaffa to remove Stokes. Malan and Brook struggled to keep up with the rate and that left Moeen to do too much, he struck a few meaty blows before the rain made an appearance. But since we had already had a couple of delays at the start, there wasn't enough time to get the game restarted.

Though it is a surprise result and we must say, an illogical way of calculating the run rate, it has given Ireland a chance to enhance their game plan for future matches!

I’m 😲

It was English people living in England who introduced Cricket in their colonies where they ruled and to see them so badly in a T20 WC match is definitely shocking

Fantastic scenes out there. The Ireland players are celebrating with their family and friends who have travelled all the way to support them. Mind you, it is still raining out there but no weather is going to stop the Irish from their celebrations tonight. Bengaluru in 2011 and Melbourne in 2022 - two wins which will be remembered for a long time in Ireland cricket history.

Josh Little was the star with the ball early on, he was unplayable with late swing and plenty of seam movement. His lengths were immaculate and led to Jos Buttler and Alex Hales' dismissals. Adair assisted him and beat the bat often. McCarthy was good. Delany should have had three but had drop catches. In the end, it did not cost them the win.

Jos Buttler: I thought we were poor in the first 10 overs and let them get away. We were not consistent enough, let them score on both sides of the wicket. The second ten overs were much better. We let them have 20-30 more in the first ten but pulled it back. Myself getting out first over didn't help, we never managed to get initiative. The rain's gotten heavier and heavier, so no problem of coming out when we did. Ireland were excellent, they outplayed us. We made a mistake here and has made it difficult in a tough group.

personally i felt england’s performance vs afghanistan was very average. they won that game mainly cause afghanistan’s batting was terrible in that game. if it wasn’t for curran’s 5 wicket maybe afghanistan could have scored more so apart for curran their bowlers didnt do as well compared to afghanistan’s. afghanistan bowling was brilliant in that match.

and as for ireland their batting was fantastic in first 10 overs but they collapsed badly hence the target wasnt too high. and england batting wasnt good today either. however if the rain didnt interrupt i think moeen ali could have won the match for england unless the irish managed to take his wicket. but eventually ireland won and i m happy for them. they were damn unlucky for the past 2-3 months losing some close games against new zealand and india.
