Now for the review of ep 21
I wish the truth had come from Ayesha herself rather than Fahad but of course the situation is such that she will never try to explain her actions to Basit now. As for what Fahad gave as the reason why Ayesha had not told him the truth, I think he too doesn't know the real reason. Ayesha had told him that she didn't want to tell Basit the truth about Zoya running away from home because of his opinion about women formed from his past experiences. But I feel the real reason why she didn't tell him was because she wanted to put up a cover for her family before Basit's eyes. In the past too we have seen how she feels uncomfortable whenever the desperation, chaos and instability of her family is exposed before Basit. In her attempt to become the woman she thinks Basit might admire, it is important for her to keep the reality of her own family as separate from Basit's life as possible. Unfortunately that is not how marriages work and this decision of hers has now landed her and Basit in this present crisis.
Anyway, Basit learns the truth. I liked his momentary shock and flash of pain on hearing about Zoya running away. Will we see him show more concern about the well-being of Ayesha's family in the future? I sure wish to see that though Qudsia deserves nothing from anyone in her life...not from Basit and neither from her daughters.
Okay there was this thing that Fahad said about Ayesha trying to tell the truth and being stopped by Basit. This had me confused for a while. Was it when she returned from home after learning that Zoya was married and Basit was standing inside the darkness in their bedroom? Would she have told him the truth had he not accused her of lying and breaking his trust and then leaving? I guess, Basit had already formed his opinion by then and once he has made up his mind, he would not listen to her. One can say Ayesha could have tried harder but after the last two episodes I can understand Ayesha a bit more and it makes sense that she did not. Her own insecurity and sense of inferiority makes it important for her to always face Basit as her equal in their everyday interactions. Just as Basit does not bend, she too cannot bend before him. In all this, it hits extra hard that she had wanted him to trust her despite everything and he couldn't.
Qudsia's behaviour regarding Basit and Ayesha now emphasises just how selfish this woman is. Selfish and foolish, negative and without any patience in the power of time to heal wounds and fix problems. She wants immediate profit in everything. On the contrary, I liked Bobby phupho's display of passive resistance to Qudsia's vulture like ways.
Now for those amazing hospital scenes! Those were like a series of montage scenes that showed the evolution of Basit's feelings towards Ayesha. And also the symbolic kiss!!! oh lord! When Ayesha uses the spoon she was feeding Basit soup with, you see Basit looking on with a faint sense of curiosity on his face like as if he wants to see her reaction while she suddenly realises what she has done and looks shocked, and embarrassed. Reminded me of ZGH scene where they drink from the same cup. Though of course the mood here is very different and totally angsty rather than being honeymooney as it was between Zaroon and Kashaf.
As for Basit telling Ayesha that she completes him and that he wants her to come back to his life, this is still Basit talking about himself, his needs, his wishes, his desires and his life. Ayesha wants him to show concern for her, her life, her wishes which Basit has to slowly learn to show. Basit is absolutely right that Ayesha is the one who knows him the best but can he say the same for himself when it comes to knowing Ayesha? Even in the past the onus had always been on Ayesha to know Basit, to understand Basit. Despite being the younger one, the more immature one in the relationship, she had been carrying the burden of making this marriage work. But something has broken inside her after being thrown out of the house. Basit has told her that it is his house. He brought her there and he could choose to make her leave. And with that Ayesha has lost faith in this marriage, a faith which was already on shaky grounds.
Then it was really delightful to see how Basit slowly accepts Ayesha's help, care and begins to enjoy and even long for her concern for his well-being. He has fully left behind that independence loving bachelor at heart persona by the end of the hospital stay. When they part this time (a scene which is very similar to the one after the nikah when they had walked up the stairs and then gone in different directions), Basit leaves a part of his heart back with Ayesha.
Now what about Ayesha? I think there is growth in Ayesha as well in these two episodes. She remains with Basit all this time not only for the promise she had made to Sadia as she claims but because she loves this man. Despite trying to maintain a distance, she cannot stay away from him. Her worry about him is real and makes it impossible for her to not take care of him. Her words too when she talks to him about letting go of his past worries, guilt, trauma, you see her thinking of him in those words, thinking for him.
Finally Zoya at her in-laws. Amir definitely is a good partner. But Zoya has to understand that she has not only married the guy but married into his family as well. Till now I guess she is thinking she will get help from her family through Ayesha and Basit if things go wrong. This gives her the confidence to behave the way she does. But there was something sinister in what her father-in-law said about the fact that Zoya has been cast away by her own family and cannot do anything.
Bano is the most loveable character in the whole show. Her concern for Ayesha and her desire to help AyeT was very beautiful to watch. I want her and Fahad's track to begin soon. Want to see her being loved by someone the way she deserves.
Forgot to mention, Bobby phupho being angry at Zoya for not letting her do her make-up for her wedding was just 🤣 This show keeps springing such surprises!
