Well, maybe I'll sound mean, but I think Ranbir is Ayan's true love...and Ranbir's true love is himself.

My assumptions: Alia wanted /wants to be with Ranbir since many years...and she wanted a baby from him. If they weren't celebrities and could decide freely, maybe they would not have married but being together like before....rather a threesome than a couple.
