I'm laughing so hard at the above stories and how similar they are to mine.
So, as I've stated on this forum before my elder sister has a son who is 6 but will be turning 7 in December.
We get along like a house on fire and we hang out together quite a bit especially since both my sister and her husband work really long hours.
I don't speak Hindi so don't know the full lyrics of Jaaniya. Just the lyrics for the chorus and even then I'm not sure I know them correctly.
That doesn't stop me from belting it out at the top of my voice on occasion though.
My nephew has heard me belting it out so many times that even he too has learnt it from me... wrong lyrics and all.
I didn't know just how much he sings it though until this past weekend when we had a family barbecue to celebrate my sister's birthday.
My nephew has a cousin from his father's side of the family who is 3 years old who also came to the barbecue with his mum and dad.
I was surprised when that cousin's mum came to me and asked for the actual name of the song my nephew had taught his cousin after learning it from me.
Apparently the little cousin had been trying to get Alexa to play it and Alexa couldn't understand him.
For the majority of that afternoon I went through a string of nursery rhymes in my head trying to work out exactly what song the mum meant.
In the end the 3 year old started singing it to himself and the mum came and said "This song".
Suffice to say the song was a mangled Jaaniya.😆
Imagine my mortification at trying to explain what this Jaaniya song is and how I came to sing it all the time.🤣
