If I should watch one of the movies you mentioned above, which one would you recommend?

For me it's Drive My Car > Shoplifters > Burning > Parasite. Drive My Car is pretty long but there are a lot of pauses in the film to let the thoughts rest. It's also a more low-key intimate film, so I think you would enjoy it more than the other three too.

my sense is lot of indian films even a vishal bharadwaj, malayalam movies are very great but hollywood has seen lots of similar versions with european cinema etc, they are interesting for connosieurs of cinema just as select indian audience watch woody allen, indie holly wood movies etc

the majority of indian audience will still watch hw big event films which are screen spectacles i.e. super hero films, titanic, avatar, independence day etc

some films will work there

just as indian audience watch their own films in other genres, they also do the same

also our format of songs in movies dont appeal to them

RRR songs worked because they truly are well entrenched in the movie and take the story forward and not the usual romantic numbers etc

i think certain filmakers catch their attention like john woo or ang lee and now rajamouli has, because his making very native and mythology and symbolism is not derived from western cinema but at the same time like the ben hur or braveheart which is missing from hw screens so has caught them at the right time

i dont think this means the regular audience will regularly watch indian movies now or go for other filmmakers

they will just watch those particular filmmakers thats all

also korean and japanese societies (from the movies/shows I have seen) are more westernised, i cant pin point but their relations, emotions are more closer to the western societies relative to indian ones

Cool, thanks - I'll check out Drive My Car.
(relieved you put Parasite at the bottom of your list😆)

Oscar awards ke liye proper campaign hota hai aur bahut jyada money invest karna padta hai

Jury sab films nahi dekhta aur sab log apna picture bhejte hain to jo campaign kiya hai wo log ka movie ko jury dekhta hai aur decision deta hai

Aur itna amount invest Karo Lekin zaruri to nahi hai ki jeetoge to Indian filmmakers nahi karte hain

RRR is best bet at Oscar Oscar ka waise hi TRP nahi a raha to bematlab ke stunt kar raha hai, rrr ko jeetade to ek larger section dekhna start Karega

In many ways they are, In many ways they aren't. Asian countries are very close at the core. You could take Parasite and play it straight in any of Mumbai, Beijing, Tokyo, Manila, Singapore etc.

in mumbai it will be gehraiyaan type then if adopted by BW

in Indian context if you want to show that kind of class conflict, it will be very different and will become class, caste movie like say sairat, asuran or a pa ranjith movie which will be far removed from western sensibility

It is just a shame that Oscars is so biased. Otherwise this movie would've own most awards hands down just because of the powerful acting.

Bollywood doesn't have the skillet for it, is one thing. But in general it would fit. I have seen situations like that in Delhi and Mumbai, where a maid would get in her husband as a driver, then her daughter as cook and so on. And the similar sort of class divide. It's a very Asian set up. I think the very concept of that sort of class divide is foreign to most westerners.

Caste is another thing that a lot of south East Asian countries have much simpler variants of. At core these countries are very similar to us.

Because most of our movies suck. And the few good ones aren't taken seriously overseas for multiple reasons.

Having said that, the Oscars themselves suck which is why they had to resort to stunts like slap-gate for attention this year.
