Presentation of Rani in Mujhse Dosti Karoge- Racist?

I rewatched mujhse dosti karoge on its anniversary again and I wonder how the film was greenlit by YRF? The theme is extremely problematic and regressive. Most shockingly, its unabashedly racist. Why was Rani not considered attractive? Wasnt she the same girl who played Tina in KKHH? Then in this film, why was she presented as the cardigan wearing bland looking girl who is not as fair as Kareena Kapoor? I wonder why Rani Mukerji said yes to the film? Which actress wants to play a character who is blantantly called unattractive that too in comparison to a contemporary? Isn't it career suicide?

This movie irritates me to no end. It’s like the director was hell-bent on trying to sell the narrative that Rani’s character was unattractive. Her makeup, hairstyle and even wardrobe was so unnecessarily shit compared to Kareena.

Someone should’ve told the director that you can be introverted and studious while still being pretty. It’s not like they put some massive pimple the size of an orange on her face, or gave her the Jassi Jassi Koi Nahin exaggerated look to convince the audience that she’s “unattractive”. It was just Rani being Rani. 😳

Her wardrobe was so bad barring a few scenes here and there. Regardless, Rani still looked pretty. Those eyes and that smile ❤️. Wasn't the supposed hero, Raj, the only one who didn't find Pooja pretty? Like Pooja did get a whole song dedicated to her beauty unlike Tina. My boy Rohan was smitten at first glance. That fool Raj could never and he still had the audacity!

Yes it was problematic and the song sawli si Ladki annoys me to insane levels.. it was downright racist and derogatory but Rani made the role her own by her subtle acting .. the other two hammed like monkeys 😃but that’s Rani .. the role and film can be shitty but she will not be .. I still remember a lot of ppl complimenting her for this film

Yes she was intentionally given bad clothes to look unattractive.. disgusting 🤢

The mint green dress was the only outfit that I liked, but even then, it looked like more attention was paid on Kareena’s makeup, hair and clothes. Rani just had her hair brushed out and parted in the middle. 🤧

Raj was obsessed with Tina’s looks since childhood, so I guess that made him completely overlook Pooja’s beauty. On top of being fixated, he also thought Tina had a smashing personality since he was chatting online with Pooja the whole time.

In all honesty, Raj acted like a douche for most of the film, but Pooja doesn’t get any brownie points for misleading the guy for 10 years. Had I found out that the guy I thought I was talking to was in fact someone else, then I would’ve dumped both their asses (reference to Tina and Pooja)

The only person who did no true harm was bechara Rohan. 😆

He was a total "lallu," what to do?

I was a fan of neither at the time but looking back at it now, the whole thing was totally messed up!

What a massive blow to Rani's character that Hrithik without batting an eye goes straight for Kareena before they even introduce themselves or so much as open their mouths to say a few words for some clue ... ANY clue he could trace back to all those letters/emails Rani's character used to send him under Kareena's name.

Firstly, to keep that kind of charade going for so many years is already pretty effed up and questionable on Rani's part. Did she think he was gonna pick her "character," completely ignoring the fact that she basically catfished him the whole time? 🤓

Secondly, why would she even be in love with a guy who so openly dissed her and went for the supposedly "pretty" one?!!! I don't think it's racism or colorism or any other ism. It's just idiotism. 😆 on the team's part.
