Part 12

Many days passed since Mini met Meeta at hospital. She kind of forgot about her. Her days were normal, her life just like she wanted it to be. She should have felt happy but only she knew there was a void in her heart. She was still figuring why she felt that she left something behind when all her loved ones are here.

One day Mini had walked in her house, she passed by Manmeet's room and she stopped on hearing some noises. She was not naive to not understand these kind of sounds. She was embarrassed thinking what could have been going on inside the room. She moved from there quickly. She wondered Manmeet's fiancee was looking like a shy girl, she didnt expect her to be here in Manmeet's room and doing...well, looks are deceptive, she laughed off.

Just when Mini was about to go inside her room, the door of the room opened and a girl came out of it. Mini thought she should say hello to her hone wali bhabhi but Mini was shocked to see that girl was not Manmeet's fiancee but some other girl.

As soon as that girl left Mini decided to confront her brother. She went in the room and looked at the condition. If any doubt left in her mind regarding what was going on here, left at once when Mini noticed the messed up bed. After a while Manmeet came out of the washroom.

"Hey! lil sis. What are you doing here?" Manmeet inquired.

"I should be the one asking that question bhaiyya. Whats going on? Who was that girl? Arent you engaged now?" Mini fired so many questions at once.

"Chill yaar! She was my gf not some random girl." Manmeet told as he lit a cigarette for himself.

"Gf! But you got engaged to someone else. Why didnt you tell papa if you loved this girl?" Mini was confused.

"Arre kya batata dad ko. Aur waise bhi is ladki se bhi main koi pyar vyar nahi karta. She is just a timepass. Aur kya pahaad toot gaya agar meri engagement ho gayi toh. Main wo Mr. Ahlluwalia ki daughter....kya naam hai uska...Nina...Nimrit...no...Nandini...yes Nandini...I dont even know her properly." Manmeet answered as he started smoking.

"What are you talking? You dont even remember your finacee's name? And this girl...just for timepass. You are involved in a physical relationship with her and ....God! this is all so wrong on so many levels. Bhaiyya what are you upto?" Mini was confused.

"Are you for real? I thought you would have change in all these years but now I realize, this accident and memory loss has put you again on that same thought process where you are papa ki pari, protected from all hard hitting darker truths of life, living in your own bubble." Manmeet said as if he was disgusted by this fact.

"What are you even talking about?" Mini was offended.

"Tumhe kya laga us din wo engagement mein papa ka kehna ki I fell in love with that Nandini....was it all true...a love story which ended the business rivalry of two families...such a cliche." Manmeet mocked her.

"You mean you dont love her?" Mini questioned innocently.

"I didnt even know her name or about her exicstence before that party. And whatever dad said was a big fat lie. We are not amalgamating our textile business, infact its a hostile takeover. But our Ipo is due next week and it will affect image so dad built a lie around it and that Ahlluwali agreed because his name would be retained among the board of directors." Manmeet spill the beans.

"That means..." Mini was trying to conclude but Manmeet helped him by continuing her sentence.

"That means our dad is genius. He hit three targets with one stone. First, he gets daughter in law of respectable business family of his status. Second, our image is saved guaranteeing successful IPO and third larger market share in textiles."

"But dad cant do this. He cant lie in front of all those people, press and its about your life bhaiyya. He cant just get you engaged to any girl without your permission. It seems like is doing business of your happiness not making relationships." Mini was dumbfounded by the revelation.

"Who said he did something against my wish. I have no problem in marrying Nandini Ahlluwalia. Its good business decision. I support it." Manmeet shared his views.

"But then your gf and in this way you are cheating on Nandini." Mini argued.

"I told you she is my gf for timepass. I dont love her. And whats wrong in having some fun. That Nandini seems pretty bore to me. Didnt you notice she was dressed as a behenji. I have had many flings in past and I will continue to do it. I will not change my ways." Manmeet declared unashamed of his thought process.

But Mini felt disgusted over him. He was her bhaiyya, the one she looked upto for everything. She wanted to be like him. Thank god he himself opened her eyes. But more than from Manmeet, Mini was upset from her dad. How can he do such a thing? Isnt its his duty to guide his children to right path but here, he just thought about business deal. How can this be true?

"May be only Manmeet bhaiyya gave him that idea and he only supported the business deal part. Dad doesnt know that Manmeet bhaiyya planning to cheat on his wife lifelong. Yes, it must be true." Mini convinced herself about her dad's noble plan.

Again, days went by and Mini led herself to comfortably believe that everything was fine in her perfect home and perfect life. She didnt want to over think on matters which can threaten to disrupt her paradise.

"Mini beta, wo main soch raha tha ki tumhare divorce ki procedure start ho chuki hai to kyu na tumhari aur Mickey ki engagement kar di jaye." Ashok shared his view excitedly.

Though Mini wanted to give their relationship a chance but she knew she owe him an explanation about her...." She put fullstop to her train of thoughts and anyway she thought that it was kind of unfair to move on in life when her marriage hasnt ended legally.

"No dad, I mean, I want to get divorced first. I dont want to rush in and anyway I want to concentrate on my MBA first." Mini avoided the topic of engagement for the time being.

"I think you are right beta. Aur waise bhi tumhare divorce ki kal first hearing hai. We should wait until it get finalised." Ashok agreed thinking now nothing can go wrong so why to tush everything. Mini is taking time to settle down fully again.

Next day, Mini reached court with her lawyer and noticed Neil was already sitting there waiting for their turn. Mini saw Neil and she felt a tug at her heart. What had she done to this nice man? He visibly looked upset. He has grown beard, unkempt hair and he has lost weight.

She had to fight a tear which was threatening to fall down anytime now. She took a deep breath to control her emotions. She thought she will sit in her car till her name gets called but due to her bad luck, Neil had noticed her.

"How are you Mini?" Neil asked but his eyes went down to her tummy. He looked at her longingly and fresh wave of guilt hit Mini. She felt a lump in her throat but finally destiny took pity on her and their name was called.

Both of them moved in the court and after the legal formalities, as per rules, judge gave them 6 months to think about their decision again. Next date was fixed after 6 months. Both of them came out of the court room. Mini wanted to escape from there as soon as possible.

"Are you happy Mini?" Neil's voice reached her ears and she stopped in her tracks. She felt like she couldnt move. The question was simple and Mini wanted to give instant reply that she is indeed very happy but to her utter shock she couldnt form any reply. Why that happened she didnt get. Wasnt she happy? She asked herself.

Mini knew she wasnt just ready to face Neil. She decided to walk away silently. She sat in her car and was about to leave when she noticed Neil was not alone anymore. There was some girl hugging him. She heard him say her name.

"Simran, you here?"

"Mujhe to aana hi tha. Tumhe akele kaise chhod deti aaj ke din. I know you are sad but think another way, jo hota hai achhe ke liye hota hai. Its better that you are getting free from that selfish woman. New relations, opportunities are waiting for you. You just have to open up to them." Simran had said.

Even though whatever that Simran girl said was right. Neil deserved some love too in his life but Mini didnt like the sound of it and how dare that simran girl advice Neil to get into another relationship on the hearing day of their divorce. Mini was not understanding why she was getting these weird feelings thinking about new girl in Neil's life but she took some deep breaths and decided to go from there. Her driver had just started the car when Mini threw one last glance at Neil and she burnt with anger seeing that Simran girl now hugging Neil and Neil was also hugging her back. Mini felt like puking when Simran even placed a kiss on Neil's forehead and he closed his eyes like it was the most soothing thing in this whole world. Instantly her sympathy for Neil was replaced with anger.

"All men are same. Devdaas jaisi haalat sirf duniya ke samne bechara banne ke liye bana rakhi hai. Divorce hua nahi ki abhi se move on karne ki planning ho rahi hai." Mini muttered under her breath as her car moved out from the court.

Mini had joined her college. She had decided to complete her MBA. Though she was regularly attending her classes but she found she couldnt fit there like previously. Something was amiss. She couldnt concentrate on lectures like she used to do it previously. She couldnt put her finger on it but something telling her its not her cup of tea anymore. The incident with Manmeet some days ago made her realize fake glory of business world and that how competition was everything even if its take away your life choices.

She decided today she will discuss it with her dad. May be he can provide some clarity. She went to have evening tea with her parents. She noticed from afar that they were discussing something. When she closed the distance she heard they were actually arguing over something and looking at her they suddenly stopped.

"Did I disturb you two?" Mini asked not wanting to get between their fight. She had noticed these days her parents argued a lot. They were her ideal couple but lately the spark between them was missing.

"No, not at all my princess. Come, join us for tea." Ashok welcomed her.

"Mom, everything alright? You seem upset." Mini inquired.

"I am...alright Mini." Babita lied avoiding eye contact.

"Dad, I wanted to discuss something about my collge. I..." Mini started to tell her worries when Ashok's phone rang. His phone was on table, towards Babita. As soon as he looked at the phone he grabbed it quickly and then cut the call but Mini noticed Babita's expression had changed. She was visibly angry now.

"You continue princess. What were you saying?" Ashok encouraged her.

Just when Mini about to say something again a phone call came and Ashok cut it. Babita has now walked away angrily and Ashok tried to strike a conversation with Mini appearing as normal. But phone call kept coming and finally Ashok had excused himself to answer it. Ashok went inside his room and even though Mini knew that she should wait for him outside but some weird gut feeling told her to follow him inside the room. As Mini neared the room, she heard Ashok was yelling at someone over phone.

"I told you not to call me when I am at home. What are you saying? I dont care. You have to do it. No I dont want to complicate things further...you cant have it. What! Mini met you....when where? Look, Mini is waiting for me outside, I cant talk much. I will meet you and then we will discuss everything. Till then, dont call me. Things are little tensed here with Babita. I'll message you the address of my new farm house. Come tomorrow." Ashok cut the call and was shocked seeing Mini there.

"Hii...beta tum yaha? tum to bahar garden mein thi na...chalo na wahi chalte hain. tumhe kuch important baat karni thi na."

Mini just nodded her head as she was not in a position to say anything. Many questions were running inside her head. Who was Ashok talking to? why Babita was angry? Whom she met that Ashok was shocked listening about it? Mini felt that she will fall down any moment now. But then last piece of conversation was stuck with her that Ashok will be meeting this person tomorrow. And she needed to find out about it.
