From the small segment of the article I read, it appears to be a borderline non-sense rant.

Love stories have been made in Bollywood and will continue to be made, they have co-existed with other genres.

Lootera, Kabir Singh, Ranjhana, Dhadak, Manmarziyan, Kalank, Luka chuppi..........

Last good romantic film was perhaps Shershaah, but that wasn't an out and out one and doesn't even fall into that genre. So I am guessing it was Aashiqui2 and BBB.

Come on, there have been many. Infact Bollywood actually is known for inserting romance into every genre film be it thriller/historical or whatever. Bhansali movies like Ramleela, Bajirao Mastani, were also based on romance. Then we had Ranjhaana, YJHD, Aashiqui 2, Kabir Singh, recently Shershah had sweet romance. Difference is that times have changed and stories like JAHK or DDLJ wouldn't work now. That 90s era was one where these old school romances would become blockbusters. Now people won't be able to relate to the themes of those films..

I get your point, but I would disagree somewhat. I think romance never becomes outdated. Just the form and the packaging changes. I think a good romantic story, if molded according to current sensibilities, would still work wonders at the box-office.

There's a reason why those South Korean romantic dramas work for people. Romance is evergreen!

I didn't mean to say that romance gets outdated.. I am only saying that those 90s romances are outdated now. The ddlj, kkhh, qsqt types. Yeah if BW can write a good romantic story, such that it strikes a chord with the vast majority of audiences, then it could work. But it's really tough to do that. Even romances like Aashiqui 2 or say even a Kabir Singh (though that wasn't really a proper romance) doesn't find unanimous appeal , like those 90s romances did, which is why they became ATBBs. I personally didn't like Aashiqui 2 , only the songs were awesome. Kabir Singh was problematic IMO. Again ADHM was a romance but it was shitty. YJHD probably was an easy breezy romance and can be said to have found that mass appreciation /love.

Talking about Korean dramas, their stories actually are much better written. For most dramas , it's not just the lead pair, but the side characters, second leads, and the whole thing as a package works. But they too have cheesy romances which I personally dislike. Fluffy romance is not my cup of tea now 😂 I mostly like slice of life stories, thrillers, mysteries and so on with romance as a subtext.

Is Shahrukh Khan capable of doing a typical romance role again?

I miss the old Shahrukh of the 90's. Where he played the loverboy and wore red sexy lipstick Anyway, he is not young anymore but do you think he...
