My take on Basit's parents breaking up...
Right off the bat we have to acknowledge that Basit's father was a bit of an eccentric. The will he leaves Basit with is the best proof of it if nothing else. That is not a normal will to put such pressure on the fellow to get him married. I mean he could have given him some time like a year maybe.
Also from the flashback that Basit had, it seemed like the parents were living in a loveless marriage even before Sadia wished to move on with someone else. He in fact tells her that he had no problem her meeting this guy all this time. But now she wants to marry him.
She wanted to take Basit with her because that is actually how custody laws work in any case. Mother will get custody over the child. Here Basit's father tells her to give Basit to him. Sadia's response is not a calm one. She cries desperately. But eventually she does leave. She must have been deeply in love with whoever she wanted to marry.
Basit has another flashback when he thinks of the various ways society reacted to his mother leaving. How people would criticise Sadia, how people would tell his father to marry again, and neither of these things are easy for a child. It is not easy to hear ill of your parents from others even if you might be angry at your parents yourself. Also the fear of his father growing distant from him in case he marries again also must have been quite traumatic.
Sadia had moved to Canada because it is mentioned in early episodes. From what Basit told Ayesha at the restaurant, Sadia used to call him and he would keep asking her to return to him. But then he says he stopped asking. This could have meant that he started refusing to talk to Sadia and slowly his resistance to talking to her as well as Sadia's own new life must have meant the phone calls became more infrequent until they stopped all together.
Basit is what he is today because of both his parents. I wouldn't blame Sadia alone. The parents have not handled the breakup responsibly. Basits father also must have had his own anger at Sadia leaving him and that too must have been transferred to Basit. We see Basits father when he has diagnosed with a terminal illness, he knows he is dying and now he wants Basit to have a full life and he wishes to have Sadia in Basit's life. We don't know how he had behaved with Sadia before that. He might have resisted explaining to his son the reasons why he and his wife had grown distant
As for Sadia's new husband, perhaps that person is no more. We have to assume that since show gives us nothing more on that. 😆
