Actually this is nothing new...we have been talking about how this drama is taking the subtle approach of displaying a character and the character's progress so this falls into that pattern.

Basit has convinced himself he and Ayesha will have a very formal relationship because as we know he is very scared of being abandoned and being hurt from abandonment. All of us who have had our hearts broken at some point in our lives would understand his fear and the detachment that comes from that fear of being hurt.

But that does not mean we do not want or need love. We just run away from love because we feel it can only hurt us. Basit's smile at the end of the episode comes unknown to him. He sees her sitting there in his room and he knows, like truly KNOWS, that he is looking at his wife. And that brings a smile to his face. His smile is his heart telling his subconscious mind that yes, I too now have someone in my life. Someone to call my own. That is my wife. Only his conscious mind still has to catch up to that feeling and that smile. So when she looks up at him, he tries to ask her what she is up to. But the warmth is still there. When she asks him if he wants coffee, his eyes are oozing that warmth that has filled his heart to the brim. SO while he has convinced himself that he does not need a wife, love or "gehra rishte", his heart is saying something quite different.
