The beautiful CSG 2022 medals and history.
Three students have designed the CWG 2022 medals. This time, the medals have been minted in a special way, which will allow visually impaired athletes to feel the design.
The Design Team
This year’s edition of the Commonwealth Games will feature medals designed by three students. The winning athletes as well as para-athletes across all the 19 sports and eight para-sports events will receive the medals. The medals have been minted in a special way that will allow visually impaired athletes to feel the design with their hands.
The Birmingham School of Jewellery and the Commonwealth Games organisers, together, organised a competition where the design and concept of the medals were shortlisted. Out of the shortlisted competitors, the winners were an all-female team – Amber Alys, Francesca Wilcox, and Catarina Rodrigues Caeiro.
Besides designing the medal, the trio also designed the ribbon and the box for the medal. The medal has an adjustable ribbon attached to it that helps the medal sit comfortably when worn, irrespective of the athlete’s height.
