These letters clearly indicates "Shamshera" has met with EPIC failure there is no doubt. With release of VIKRANT RONA which is getting rave reviews already looks like 90 - 95%% screens won't be screening Shamshera any more. Plus tomorrow EK Villian Returns also hits screens. The movie which had MASSIVE 5000 screens worldwide will be limited to not more than 300 screens around the globe within a week.

YRF should by now learn. Its not brand name, scale of movie or stars which matter much post pandemic. Its the CONTENT which should emotionally connect with audience. Be it drama, comedy, thriller even tragic love saga it doesn't matter either it should touch audience heart and make them cry or make them laugh their ass off or keep them on the edge of their seat.

The brand YRF has galore of movies in their past be it Daag, Kabhie Kabhie, Silsila, Chadani, DTPH, Daar or DDLJ each of them had one major thing in common ROMANCE & MUSIC. YRF stood for that brand. But instead of sticking to their brand value and churn out modern, relevant narratives of those genre they choose to ape BABHUBAALI, KGF with both Prithiviraj & Shamshera. Result we all know.

I hope they learn from their mistakes. Hire good story writer who don't COPY & PASTE from South Indian or foreign movies.

Shamshera is NOT OURS - Reply to Karan Malhotra and Sanjay Dutt

**Post contains ALL Spoilers. Don’t read if you plan to watch it**

This post is going to hurt fans. It’s our job to give honest feedback and hope this reaches Ranbir and Team Shamshera. They need to understand what’s a “Mass movie” , they sold us a Mass movie and Shamshera turned to be opposite of “Mass movie”. I will explain in detail why..

Do you remember Deewar? ***Mere pass maa hai*** movie? That movie begins with Amitabh and Shashi Kapoor’s dad, played by Satyen Kappu. He was a union leader and gets betrayed by Mill owners. His union of laborers turn against him and his family is boycotted. Do we remember this character from Deevar? Not at all. Because he was not a Hero.

Sadly, our **Shamshera** is that Satyen Kappu. He makes a wrong treaty and his tribe is enslaved. He isn’t a visionary leader. He is just a Dacoit. Director takes 10 mins to show Shamshera as Dacoit and then get fooled by Shuddh Singh. His back story is weak. We don't see a lion trapped, we see a weak man trapped. **Shamshera is shown to be SAD, he had no Rage of a wronged man. A hero is angry, not sad.**

Story progresses, Shamshera makes more mistakes and sets himself for undignified death. His **Aakhri daav** is neither well thought or, nor has any vision. His first attempt at heroism is so weak, you don't even want to sympathise with him. You don’t feel outraged at his death. Why is this movie calling him “Great leader”? He didn’t do anything great in his lifetime and left his pregnant wife the task to bear burden of killing him. No hero does this to his pregnant woman.

**What should have been Shamshera’s story** ?

When trapped with his tribe, he found the exit that he set out to discover, and died freeing his people. He and Ronit Roy stood fighting and he dies saving his tribe heroically. He lets Ronit Roy escape with promise that his Son will finish the injustice . If they wanted to show half of tribe still trapped there, giving Balli a cause to return , it would have been OK as well.

They should have shown Shamshera standing on mountain of corpses, like Akshay Kumar in Rowdy Rathore. **I want to salute Hero when he dies, not feel bad for him as if he is** ***Gopi Bahu***

Basically , Shamshera is a weak leader and we don't align with his cause.

**What should have been Balli’s story**

Suppose the tribe escaped, Balli is brought up in secret place and trained by Ronit Roy, in fighting and also mind games that Brits and Shuddh Singh plays. He is Shamshera 2.0. He is slippery , skilled at fooling people, maybe good at disguise and carries robberies that depend more on planning and less on showing axe and running with loot.

**Shudh Singh -** This villain doesn’t give a fu¢k when he comes face to face with Shamshera look alike, who he knows ,is Shamshera’s son. This means, he doesn’t fear Shamshera . **Our titular hero is a joke to Villian**. Kaale Naina song and setting was perched to moment of Hero coming face to face with villian . It turned out as nothing coz Villain doesn’t care!!

Now go back to Bahubali. **Remember Bhalladev’s panic when he just hears Bahubali’s name**. Even the name brings shiver in this powerful villain. Our Balli dude came on dance stage and I thought Dutt will panic. He doesn’t even react to Shamshera look alike son. It shows how weak our titular hero is.

**This movie was offered to Ranbir as Balli only**

It would have worked if Shamshera was played by someone else and Balli is his son, is hidden from Suddh Singh. **Same story could be kept till interval. Balli should have been shown getting training and slipping out to become powerful to save his tribe.**

**That sequence of Balli trying to become officer and gets humiliated -**

This is not how you awaken a hero. *I’m still ready to forget this , had Balli’s graph in the movie was heroic later*

# Balli is not an inspiring hero

He is sad, miserable, doesn't show any brilliance in loots he makes. He doesn't even get one scene where he inspires his gang. His claim to fame is "**I look like my daddy Shamshera"**

Remember Lagaan? Aamir recruited each player and all had back story. Chalo, we don’t want to make movie long. Show Balli recruiting the **Tunnel digger guy , a Cook** and someone who has worked as **kaarigar at Jeweler**. I will come to Jeweler’s role later.

How is Balli's graph as leader? Balli’s loots are uninspiring. **Sona dances and Balli loots. This doesn’t work like Hero.** Show one Tunnel robbery, one robbery where cook makes people unconscious. Let **each loot have a start - Middle - Climax where people clap.**

Show some brilliance in his methods. All dacoits are given one scene where he gets tag of "Big heart". **Shamshera and Balli don't get any scene to show his greatness**. Let him leave a loot coz someone's girl will not get married as they are not so rich.

**There was a big heart moment. Saurabh Shukla frees Sanjay Dutt’s bride. Why not Balli free her? It’s insane. I wanted to slap writer at this point.**

**I am sure they edited out part where they dug tunnel** \- One where they see entire Safe being dragged and other at Shuddh Singh’s wedding hawan. **Idiots edited out best parts to show Sona dancing!!**

# Balli’s downfall arch after Pitamber's death

This was totally unnecessary arch. **Golden rule of Hero mass movie - Once a hero awakens, never send him back as weak. Specially , if it’s single screen movie**

Story was still going OK till Pitambar dies. Many people must have walked out after Balli goes back to low grade life. Why did they have to show losing all loot from Shuddh Singh's wedding? Villan always wins here.

It gets worse. **They plan to hide and then Villain manages to kill most of his gang members , while he hides as uninspiring labor.** Again, remember Bahubali, even as a rope puller, he pulls a heroic moment. Here we are helpless Balli crying with his pregnant wife!!

Balli doesn't do anything to save his pals. **We see just Sad Balli/Ranbir, where is rage of injustice? Do we want to watch this loser's story?** If you have still not left theatre, you are in for more regret.

When Balli is downgraded, there is a scene where Dutt stands on corpses of his gang and has their loot displayed. **Sorry, who is supposed to be hero in movie?**

**Villain gets all high moments. We wanted Balli to stand on loot and mountain of Shuddh Singh’s men’s corpses. We got the opposite. It's a sob story.** *Bohoo, life is unfair, enemy is too strong*. We know it. We came to see story of heroism, not story of pathos.

Every Hero story has a betrayal moment. Hero handles it well. Here, **our Hero gets destroyed by that moment. Balli** looks sad, he has no rage. Director doesn't give Balli one moment of anger where you see someone who can scare Shuddh Singh/Dutt

**"Heroine" Vaani Kapoor** \- I’m all for having a big role for women in movie and I can overlook her modern styling too. But this woman is here to dance and not rise to occasion. Balli's wife is weaker than his dad's Shamshera's wife.

In one scene, she is trapped and goes in labor. If she screams, Villans will know her location, and she screams the loudest. Who wrote this sequence? Give her a glory moment. Show her giving birth without making noise to save Balli. Give her “Wife of great warrior” moment.

Remember “A quiet place” movie? Heroine gives birth without making any noise to escape predators . But Balli’s wify is extra stupid. She screams and gives birth and then shows baby to villains. Stupidity doesn’t end here.

**What happens next, is probably most unheroic moment in history of cinema** . Saurabh Shukla tells Balli - ***leave your wife in safety of Brit and run for your life*** !! I almost left theatre at this point. I’m sure many walked out at this point coz Balli isn’t hero we want to see because he is always running away, when going gets tough. His dad abandons his pregnant wife and Balli abandons his wife in most vulnerable moment. Never marry in this family, men are cowards.

A hero NEVER abandons his woman. Here Balli is shown as someone who hears his child’s first cry and sees his child and wife surrounded by villains. Which self respecting man will just run away at this moment? In a realistic movie, we may accept this. **But this is sold as MASS movie. Sunny Deol handpump moment was needed here. Where are the crows when you need them? Let crows attack and Balli saves the day, heroically, for once**

**Teri Maa ka Mukut**

As I said earlier , I wanted Balli to have a different story arch. Balli’s gang is successful in looting Dutt’s marriage and house. They can’t be found as they hide well. But all this wealth has no guarantee of Brits honoring their part of treaty. Balli needs a solid weapon to make sure Brits keep their word , Maa ka Mukut is his weapon.

The jeweler member of gang, makes a replica of crown. Balli replaces real crown and blackmails Brit officer to get real one back on the condition that he dictates.

He goes to Kaza prison . Shuddh Singh does his betrayal part but he is in for a surprise. Half of his soldiers are in Team Balli coz he manages to use his knowledge about their weakness for gold and buys them. He even buys that soldier who set up Balli for “Officer’s test”. **Let Shuddh Singh experience full on** ***Khanjar hai peeth meii gehra***

What was the point of having a treaty, when it will not be used in the movie? Shamshera died for treaty.

**Climax - Never seen such limp climax**

Looks like Shuddh Singh is hero. Brit is Villain and Balli is side character. Shuddh Singh gets his revenge on Brit officer while Balli watches from sideline. He regretfully says "Angrez ke saath dhoka hua hai". Shuddh Singh wins against Shamshera, Balli and even mighty Brit Army !! Give him the crown

Balli gets beaten and defeated in final combat against Shuddh Singh. Who saves the day? **Ronit Roy and Crows**. I don’t mind using crows. Man and animals team works big time. **But they come when hero calls them. Not when hero is almost dead and doesn’t expect them.**

**Final blow -** Ronit Roy gives the information that awakes tribe . This was Balli’s shining moment to awaken people. **His** ***Sattar minute*** **moment. How can Hero lay unconscious in mud when crows and tribe comes to save him. Boo , that’s not single screen paisa vasool climax**

You can sell anything to single screen audience , if you tell story right. **Hero has to save the day, defying science, logic and God**

**Alternative scenario** \- Climax fight is shown to all prisoners. They see Balli beating Shuddh Singh. Show heroism, leadership , bravery and strategy . Let the Hero shine .

**Neither Shamshera nor Balli shine as larger than life hero. Both are in defeatist mode. How is audience gonna like this movie?**

**The parts that were done right**

Only one part that showed a glimpse of what movie could have been. Balli fights Brit officer and both know Balli has won. Balli doesn’t let officer surrender , he stages defeat to escape. Audience and Officer know who won, Balli comes out as hero. This is how you show a hero’s defeat. Hero of single screen never loses. His defeat is a strategy.

**TL;DR -** Movie is epic fail at script level. This isn’t a single screen movie like Pushpa. Critics aren’t wrong. Bollywood isn’t discriminated as they haven’t made similar movie like Pushpa and KGF.

**Message to ShamsheraIsOurs Gang**

Don't cry victim, when you made a bad movie and publicized it like mass movie. You should apologize to audience , not make posts as if you are wronged. Own up your shIt and learn lesson from your mistakes.
