The feels from today's episode!!! Oh my god! These actors, they say so much through their eyes!! Ushna and Feroze really set fire to the screen today. The pathos, the repressed need for love, the pain of humiliation and the fear of rejection, everything was said in those eyes.
Ushna as Ayesha has so much depth in her performance! The startled moments of pain and humiliation that she has when Basit behaves badly with her family were simply remarkable. Those moments just leave you wanting more. Her face becomes all shuttered and yet her eyes speak the shock of the pain that she is trying so much to absorb into herself. Every single moment of this marriage is driving into her the difference between her and Basit's worlds. Her feeling of being lost, caught amidst forces beyond her control or cognition was so brilliantly portrayed by Ushna. Seriously I am so glad Ushna is Ayesha. She brings gravity to the character as well as showing the vulnerability.
Feroze as Basit just keeps continuing to surprise! The promo had made me believe he would have an outburst but his reaction to Ayesha running away, not answering his phone or the fact that he is annoyed by what he sees as an intrusion from Ayesha's family was so in keeping with his character and so wonderfully shown by Feroze as an actor. The fact that he is not someone who shows his anger easily and when he does, his anger comes out in more passive-aggressive ways was made clear once again. He really is hoping to handle his wife as if she is a business deal. He gave his orders to Ayesha's mom firmly believing the whole business will be sorted out by her. His irritation with the behaviour of his in-laws really shows that he was not ready to take on the commitments that marriage brings in South Asian societies. And his look just showed the shock when Ayesha tells him that she is trying, but will he try too...
Nothing needs to be said about the scene when he applies balm on her hand... it was everything viewers were hoping for and more! And special mention for Basit's friend. What a wonderful guy and he deserves a round of applause for making Ayesha smile during the wahlima.
