After watching so many pak dramas, one thing i was prepared for is chauvinist dialogues from MLs in almost all dramas even if they are shown to be vilayathi maal. So i wasn't surprised when shehroze said that. He looks down on everyone. So why did anyone expect him to think he will look up at women in particular? mothers come under special category for almost all chauvinist and misogynist around the world. So saying that if shehroze can love and respect his mother why cannot he do that for other women is pointless.
Shehroze's chauvinism comes from deep rooted patriarchy and not because he in particular has any problem with women. It's in the culture for wives to love their husband and kids over her parents. I guess even with Naima, we don't see any of her family members and she might have chosen wahab and shehroze over her parents. She might be dominating but its obvious that she chose to stay in a marriage with a guy like wahab who used to be busy instead of leaving him and going back to her parents. It's pretty obvious she comes from a rich family herself considering her obsession with khandani khoon. Naima chose a loveless marriage with wahab and took care of his house and his social status. In shehroze's eyes, he has multiple times confessed how much he loves ushna. So for him she should give him uttermost importance. If Naima can be a good wife to wahab then why cannot ushna be a good wife to shehroze? For him, he clearly is a way better husband than wahab. He gives her time and his love, provides her with all the comfort. In a South Asian household that's the best any husband can give and the best the wife can give is support her husband through think and thin. If we look through an asian perspective then even raeesa is a very good wife. She isn't a good mother but she is a good wife. She stands with rafaqat through thick and thin and is even ready to go against her children for him. They seems to share a strong husband wife bond.
If we measure pak drama men with today's liberal and feminist values then 99% percent of the men wont pass. Even furkhan didnt encourage zainab to be independent and strong and i guess he was the most loving and caring husband in the drama. Even he had the mindset that he is the provider and his wife should take care of the household.
I don't know how many of you have seen the movie thappad. The husband in the movie was a good husband till the main event occurred and even tapsee used to think she had a really good husband. He wasn't necessarily a bad person but used to have the same thinking that almost all South Asian men have and it's not entirely his fault. He was brought up in an extremely patriarchal society.
