Abortion laws are at a state level, it is upto the states to decide and rule against it. The cases I mentioned & the one Nezu mentioned were the ones where ladies had appealed at the supreme court.
Many states in this country have anti-abortion law. Meaning, aborting a foetus starting from 5 wk old is a crime. There are many exceptions where abortions are needed. For ex, a child in the womb detected with serious illness, or rape victims, unwed mothers who cannot raise the baby, etc etc.
So the cases that were brought up in the recent news are these exceptions( from these anti-abortion law states) where they had to get aborted, but were accused of the crime since they had to abort. Which the victims did not accept and hence appealed to supreme court. The old case was in 1973 where the appeal was granted and allowed the lady to make a choice. But a similar case now did not get the same result.
There is more to that news, but this is just the gist of it in layman terms.
But there are many states in this country that where there are no anti-abortion laws, meaning the woman gets to make a choice. Some even move to those states to live. The pro-life and pro-choice debate has been going on for many years, a usually controversial debate during election too.
Sorry for the long post, I hope I did not confuse further🤔
