Anu gently shifted Mukku's head from her lap to the bed thankful that she had slept. She was exhausted too but she knew he was awake, waiting for her. Covering Mukku with a warm blanket, she silently got down from the bed, changed and walked out of the room. Shutting the door, she turned around and bumped into GK.
"Kaaka?"
His worn cheeks wet with tears, he looked up at her and folded his hands.
"I am sorry, beta. Anuj left Mukku in my care. I should have taken better care of her."
She held his hand and nodded in negative.
"Kaaka... please."
"If her parents had been there..."
He gave a sigh.
"Kaaka... you did more than what anyone else did.... I am sure wherever they are now... her parents feel happy that they left their children in your care... They left because they knew you were there to take care of them..."
"But..."
"Please don't feel guilty... some things are just beyond our control... You were there for both of them when no one else was... not even me... I am grateful for that..."
GK nodded.
"It's already late... why don't you rest, Kaaka?"
"I will... Anu, beta... will you promise me one thing?"
"Huh?"
"Promise me that when it's time for me to leave.... my children will be in your safe hands..."
Anu said nothing but bent down and touched his feet. He placed his hand on her head his face brightened by a peaceful smile knowing he could now sleep in peace.

She opened the door to his room. Just as she had expected, he was sitting in his chair, his chin resting on his folded fingers. He looked up as she entered and shut the door.
"Mukku slept?"
"Yes..."
"She told you everything?"
"Yes..."
Her one word curt answers made him lift his eyebrow.
"Anu?"
"Nothing..."
"What is it?"
"I don't... don't know..."
"Don't know....? Anu?"
She walked towards him and sat on his bed near his chair. He scanned her face with his eyes and asked again
"Anu...?"
"I think she is still in love with him..."
"Aarav?"
"Yes..."
He gave a sigh.
"I know she is still in love with him..."
Anu looked up, a little surprised at this.
"What? She is my baby sister... agreed that I did leave her alone a lot but that doesn't mean I don't know anything about her... I knew she was in love with Aarav even before that idiot confessed to me that he loved her."
"He confessed to you?"
"Of course... you really thought that Aarav had the guts to confess to Mukku without my pep talk... He was a bumbling idiot..."
"Says the man who didn't confess his love for 26 years."
She wiggled her eyebrows at him and he folded his hands.
"Mohatarma... what can I do... in front of this beeeyoootiful face, this poor hoooman becomes a fool..."
He pouted and she slapped him playfully giggling at his antics. His face shrunk as he remembered Mukku and he reached out and took her hand in his. He spoke with a little tremble.
"Anu... she won't leave us again... will she?"
"She won't... we won't let her go... My baby has suffered a lot alone... never again."
"I really didn't know... I should have come back... but we cracked a new deal and..."
"It's ok..."
"It's not... because I stayed back for a little more profit when my sister was suffering..."
"You didn't know... don't... don't blame yourself for something you didn't do... you wouldn't have left her had you known... it is not your fault..."
He nodded and squeezed her hand thanking her for being there. She smiled at his gesture. As they sat together processing the events of the evening silently, a little guilt she had felt ever since she met Mukku surface again and she shook her head slightly trying to clear her brain. When it didn't work, she sighed and pulled away her hand.
"Anuj..."
"Hmmm?"
"I... uh... I..."
He looked at her.
"You know you can tell me anything..."
"I don't know anything..."
"Huh?"
"I... uh... I want to know more..."
"Know more?"
"More about you..."
"Me?"
"Mmm hmmm... all the years without you I lived in a world with 10 maybe 20 people... and I know you know everyone as you always were in my life checking on me with Devika..."
"No... not always..."
"Huh?"
"Anu... did you really think that Devika would betray your confidence? I agree that she did let me in some parts of your life... but they were parts that even your neighbor knew... like you were divorced, had three kids..."
The guilt lifted and she gave a small smile.
"So you really don't know..."
He leant in closer.
"I really don't... but I really really want to..."
She moved back her smile widening.
"But first... We need to talk to Aarav..."
He sighed knowing she was right.
"I will..."
"Will he listen to you?"
"Ah... I can handle that kid... don't worry..."
"If that creepy Mr. Shah doesn't interfere... again"
The vehemence in her voice made him raise his eyebrow again.
"Anu?"
