Nikkah is the Islamic marriage. Rukhsati is just a cultural practice where husband and wife can start living together. Technically you don’t need rukhsati in Islam but it is necessary for Pakistani society.

I think Rukjsati is more important than Nikah in Pakistan only. I have seen a lot of Muslim who just sign the Nikah paper in front of relatives, do some religious ritual, eat sweets, and start living together.

As far as I know Ruksati is when both husband and wife start living together in the same house, same room. For these two it would be moving into the same room and sharing everything. Right now even though the Nikkah has taken place they are still staying in separate bedrooms.

Hope I haven’t confused anyone.

Thank you for the explanation, now it makes sense. So it is necessary only in Pakistan? What happens if you consummate the marriage without having a Rukhsati? that's the whole issue here, isnt it? Will that mean the girl will be blamed?

There was a Pakistani drama on GEO TV where Sami Khan and the girl consummated their marriage after Nikkah, and she fell pregnant. The child was known as illegitimate as Rukhsati wasn’t done, which was very sad for the child.

Is that the one with Neelam Munir or Ayesha Khan? I think I may have watched it. That's terrible, if you are married then that's legal isn't it?

Wow - I didn't know Rukhsati meant that much. Is it compulsory to do it? I didn't see Wahab having one but I guess at this age what kids will he produce so could be that too, perhaps.

I have seen Rukhsati with 4 years old boy, no one can blame couples for that. Rukjsati means husband brings wife in his house officially. If any couple wants to live together, they surely can without any lavish celebration.

Rukhsati is just lavish celebration where 2 family invite all their relatives and eating, dancing, fun , that's it.

Rukhsati has nothing to do with consummation or having baby. Rukhsati is only Pakistani thing, others take it lightly.

Pakistani drama made rukhsati is huge thing, this is very sad thing that they promotes it

In fact father's bring son in law after Nikah in sasural and couples start living together from that day. If family wants to do rukhsati then sometimes husband comes to sasural vice versa. It depends on husband wife basically.

But the way Pakistani drama represent it, feels like it is sin to touch each other without that damn lavish hangama 🤢

Okay so technically it is just one more added ceremony. Well in that case Shehroz and Ushna can move in together without having any lavish functions. But I guess given its importance in Pakistan it appears to be a very big deal. I have had it with the Wahab lot (minus Wahab, and Shehroz) and that other house too at this point.
