Could they be making a reference to the Neelmadhab temple in Odisha? I've heard a very vague myth about a blue sapphire being involved in the legend of that temple. ð³

I've only heard a very vague version so...there was a King who had a girlfriend/queen whose dad was a tribal chief. The King heard about a rare blue sapphire (Lord Nilmadhab) that the tribal king worshipped in a forest temple, and the wife said that only members of her father's family were allowed to visit that temple. Eventually, the King broke her, and she convinced her father to take the King to the temple.
Once they reached the temple they found the sapphire had disappeared, and then they heard an aakashvaani, directing the King to go to the seashore where he would find a big log of wood floating which would eventually be converted into the Puri-Jagannath temple deities. So, some people revere that temple to this day as the aadi-Jagannath temple. ð
In the Star Bharat Radha Krishna show, they showed something like this. It was about stealing the rare diamond/sapphire and there was some story associated with it. ~ I don't remember what it was, stopped watching long back.
Thanks for the story Pro! ð€
Thanks for sharing di
It all initiated in a small cave in the Brahmadri hills situated on the banks of Mahanadi, which is known as Kantilo of Nayagarh district today. Here, Biswabasu the local Sabara Chief worshipped Kitung, as the God was known in the Sabara dialect. According to the Puranas, the deity was originally worshipped in the form of an Indranila gem image known as âNilamadhava". The daru murti came much later.Located near the confluence of three rivers Mahanadi, Kuanria and Kusumi. The temple structure is like the Jagannath temple of Puri. It stands on the right bank of Mahanadi. It is called triveni sangam of Odisha. As there is Beni-Madhava in Prayag, so as here Nilamadhava.
interesting Thanks for sharing it Pro ðOriginally posted by: metacrisis
