"Raavi!" called Shiva as she stepped past him to walk away from him yet again.
Raavi stopped in her tracks but did not turn around.
"What is it? Why do you keep blocking my way? This is not the way you address your senior. Don't you understand your behaviour is very unprofessional for a Junior reporter like you?"
"Senior and Junior?" Shiva snapped as he walked in front of her and blocked her path. "Is that what we are?"
"Why are you acting like this is news to you? You've been here for 2 months now? Don't you know who you are and who I am?" said Raavi with a slight sarcastic twist to her tone.
It has been 2 months since Shiva got to know about Raavi's new job. He joined the news channel she was working for, the next day. He thought that it was the only way he could stay close to Raavi. He was the happiest when he was appointed to assist Raavi. He has been trying his best to get her back as his wife but Raavi was determined to make him compensate. She had always worked hard for the job and the channel was not ready to lose her. Moreover, she had decided that she would be professional and not quit her work. But Shiva was making it hard for her. He always lagged behind her during every operation of hers. And he would not spare a slight chance for personal discussions and apologies.
Raavi was fed up. She needed an end of it. But she was not ready to forgive him so easily. Right now, they were in the studio where Raavi had just finished her news reading. Shiva started the conversation when they were left alone.
Shiva stepped closer to Raavi and grabbed her by the shoulders.
"This sarcasm, nor this act of yours is not going to change reality, Raavi! And the reality is that I am your husband and you are my wife! That trumps every other relationship we have!"
"Really? Now you remember you're my husband? Where was this memory when I most needed it Mr. Pandya? Where was this surety about my position in your life when you were blaming me of adultery?"
Shiva closed his eyes and took a deep breath and opened it again.
"Raavi, I have said this before and I will say it again, I am really sorry. It was the circumstances."
"Are you even serious?" said Raavi as she tried to pull away from him, but Shiva didn't let her. "Did the circumstances stop you from trusting your wife?"
"Raavi, it's not that simple. Don't you understand..."
"Understand what? That you didn't even spare a second thought before blaming your wife of unfaithfulness? I have already broken our relationship and told you that it's all over between us. So with what authority are you claiming to be my husband now?" said Raavi angrily as she pushed Shiva away from her.
Shiva aught hold of her arm and pulled her back towards him again. Raavi rested her hands on his chest to stop him from pulling her closer.
"I am not claiming to be your husband, I am your husband. We never got divorced. So legally you are still my wife, Mrs Raavi Shiva Pandya!"
"You can forget what you did to me but I can never! You hurt my soul every time. Whenever I thought its going to be normal between us, you did a more annoying thing to hurt me."
"I have forgotten nothing!" said Shiva with equal anger in his voice. "Do you think it was easy for me to do all that dammit? Do you think I was having fun having to say all that? I know I was always judgmental about you and that's my mistake. And I am asking for just one chance. Is that too much?"
"I gave you million chances but you broke my heart into pieces. How the hell am I supposed to trust you now and WHY?"
"Because you love me Goddammit.. and I love you!" said Shiva pulling her closer.
"I love you!" he said more softly this time, looking down at Raavi.
Raavi simply stared at Shiva. He loved her? How can he claim to love her when he had said there was nothing between them? When he had accused her of cheating on him? She didn't think she could ever forget that moment. The shock of it still resonated inside her. That moment when the Shiva she had loved more than her life, had let her down so badly! For a moment, her will to live had left her. She had always known Shiva had trust issues, but she had come to believed it was only her for him. She was the only one he never wanted to trust. Raavi always tried to become Raavi Shiva Pandya. His wife. The woman he loved. The woman who loved him. Did he think it was that easy to just come back after some months and tell her he loved her and expect things to be the same? Like nothing wrong ever happened between them?
"You love me?" whispered Raavi.
"Of course I love you! why do you even need to ask?" Shiva whispered back.
"I thought you never did."
"You were wrong."
Looking into Shiva's eyes, she could see a new Shiva. The guy who was perhaps really in love with her. Who needed her.
"If you love me, Shiva, then why didn't you talk to me? Why did you just tried your best to prove me characterless? asked Raavi angrily. "Why did you do and say all those awful things?"
"I said I am sorry. You know I had trust issues. But today, I trust you the most, love you the most.
With this, he pulled her closer, his breath almost touching her face.
"Let me go," said Raavi, not able to stand his closeness anymore. Not when he was smiling like that. He was not good for her peace of mind, her resolve to be strong, felt like it was melting, and she didn't want to melt. She could not risk having her heart broken again. He may love her, but she wanted him to trust her too. Until love and trust were in equal measures, no relationship was complete. If they were going to keep secrets from each other then it would never work.
"Raavi," said Shiva as he cupped her face. "Listen to me!" He said as he bent his head and their noses touched. He then moved his lips closer to hers and Raavi's eyes automatically shut. Shiva lips curved in a smile seeing that. He closed the gap between their lips and his lips brushed hers slowly. Raavi didn't move, and her eyes were still closed. Shiva continued to slowly brush his lips over hers and Raavi gasped. Shiva took advantage of this moment to deepen the kiss, gently biting at her lower lip. Raavi's breathing became more laboured as she clutched at Shiva's shirt. It suddenly alerted Shiva to where they were. He gently broke the kiss and looked down at Raavi.
"I'll never let you go Raavi, you are mine."
Raavi didn't say a word and left the place leaving behind a hopeful Shiva.
*************************
Channel Kal, Aaj aur Kal had completed 4 years and they had a success party. Shiva sat on the bar and the number of glasses grew around him as he drank, trying to control his temper with every swallow as he watched Raavi dance with what seemed like every guy who was attending the party.
It wasn't just the dancing. It was the smile she had on her face, and the amount of fun she was having.
Not to mention that she had completely forgotten about him.
He saw her laugh at something and felt sick. That was it. He had had enough.
Downing one last drink he practically slammed it down on the counter before marching towards her.
"Having fun?" he asked grabbing her arm again and turning her around, their faces intimately close as his eyes gazed into hers.
"I.. Yes." She replied almost defiantly.
"Can I have the next dance?"
Before she could reply the guy she had been dancing with tapped her shoulder. Shiva looked up at that and glared at him.
"And you are?"
"Varun. We were dancing."
"Well, not anymore."
"But''
"She's with me."
"But you just.. "
"Get the hell out of here."
The guy backed away immediately at the tone and the murderous look in his eyes.
"What the hell are you doing?" Raavi snapped. "You just threatened him.
"I can't see you with anyone else. You are mine."
Ravvi looked at him for a moment and then pulled her hands across his chest before linking them around his neck.
"You wanted a dance, right?"
At first Shiva was surprised but he smiled seeing her comfortable as his hands found her waist.
They swayed to the music, his eyes holding hers as their bodies brushed and touched' It was a slow dance. One that seduced with its subtlety. She could feel their breath mingle, was aware of the close proximity of their bodies and that his hands, his hands were touching and teasing. They were simply everywhere' his lips were close' And she couldn't help but remember just how much she had liked that clever mouth and that heavy lidded gaze that only made matters worse for her heart.
She was in his arms again. he was touching her, feeling her, loving her.
Shiva pulled Raavi out of the party. They entered the lift and Shiva held her as soon as the doors closed. Before he knew it he had leant in and brushed his lips lightly against hers.
"I love you." Raavi murmured softly her words caressing his lips as her hands slipped into his hair.
"What?"
"I love you Shiva. I always did. I... I never stopped."
She was staring at him with her heart in her eyes, her entire face alive with happiness and contentment, as if she finally felt free now that she had spoken the words.
"I love you too," He whispered, a slight tremor in his voice as his throat clogged up a bit. It was only after he had said the words did he realize that his heart was oddly lightly too before he pressed an intense kiss against her lips. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled him close kissing him back. The kiss was a mixture of passion and a rare subtlety. It was almost a leisurely communication as their lips brushed and parted and then brushed again. His arms were now enveloping her completely as he held her close, their bodies speaking a language of their own as they shuddered at the intimacy.
Raavi decided to trust her fate, to give her love another chance. Shiva had been working so hard to mend this relationship. He was working as a reporter, which wasn't even his cup of tea. Raavi might have denied for somewhere in her heart, she had always appreciated his efforts. She decided to forgive him. They were happy. It was a new start of their life and they promised to hold each other's hand forever.
I hope that was good 😳
