It makes complete sense that Anu and Anuj want to live with "family", Plus their romance seems to thrive on audience and PDA. But I love my family too much to want to live with them. Similarly with my partner's family.

I'd rather live separately and have a cordial loving relationship with them than have to live with them and risk ruining the relationship. Everybody needs their own space and I've seen very very few families that can manage to give that space while living together.

And no surprise that the great Indian joint family is always the guy's family, nahi toh the way people talk about a man living with his wife's family, we all know. We've seen the "Ghar jamai" comments even here, and how it's used to imply disrespect.

Its 2022. Even in India there are hardly any joint families left. Nobody lives with their chachas and mamas and cousins anymore. Definitely not in cities, maybe in villages and small towns but those are also diminishing. And these serial makers are stuck with these huge joint families.

ITV mostly thrives on drama and Kaand ... That’s why joint families are necessary to show cz they add the drama and masala elements... I can’t remember any show where only nuclear families or only couple etc are shown , even initially if it starts off it ends up turning into a family saas bahu drama ... N with the kind of format they have of 5 days a week content and shows dragging along for years , different characters are required I guess otherwise show can’t run with only few cast members na ...

Nowadays there is no quality driven and character driven. content on ITV ..The shows I remember in 90s and early 2000s were so much more progressive and concentrated properly on few character’s growth with proper storyline’s ( a serial called Aarohan starring Pallavi Joshi , is prime eg , there was also Saans starring Neena Gupta which btw Anupamaa is a kind of rip off of since it had similar concept of ema and a housewife struggling to come to terms with it ) ... Basically there was no need to thoonsofy parivaar and joint family concepts unnecessarily...

Its also strategic as there is lot of content on TV or OTT.

There are lots of eye balls on TV, if families watch together while eating etc. Otherwise if they show a nuclear family etc. it might not get so many eyeballs, since not everyone would be watching as hard to related to only one character. This gives some options.

Or it could be reverse psychology of people not living in joint families and being happy of that decision when they see this drama in joint family 🤣

About families watching shows together , I shudder when ppl say their 4 year old is fan of Anupamaa 😲 or GK says their viewership is from age 4-84 ... I mean why would you want kids to watch this crap !!! Joint families shown in clean , feel good shows like Sarabhai, Dekh Bhai Dekh etc is entertaining viewing for entire family , not this toxic joint family khichdi which ends up giving everyone a bad taste 👎🏼

But you forget a lot of people are too selfish. If they want to watch the show, they will let it play. Its the same, where you see so many parents scrolling on their phones rather than playing with their toddlers.

Not judging as everyone does need some personal time , hence it tends to happen.

Its certainly not good for the mind, as kids cannot differentiate between reality and the show

If anupama serial is watched by kids this is what they think

- Joint family is about screaming and fighting at top of voice

- mother is superior to non mother women

- mother can do any thing wrong and than justify saying i am maa

- emotional blackmail best on hubby or lovers few tears is all you need

- ex hubby has all rights on divorced wife

- a man can stay with ex wife and current wife n same house

- even if your are MBA or working you are good bahu only if you cook in kitchen

- husband can have 5 affairs but hes acche pita means hes a great man

- if it benefits your kids economically and professionally your ex hubby can have affair with your sister in law just close your eyes

- give 1000 bashans do not follow anything you preach (like politicians)

- Given 25 min bashan on women and maa is woman empowerment than become door mat

- If you are doormat turn your new hubby into another doormat by blackmail emotionally

- If it helps your kids turn blind eye to ex hubby affairs and cheating

- staying in same house of ex hubby and your souten is women empowerment

- your kids can do milion faults forgive saying i am maa do not punish them

- ignore your birth mother call ex hubby mother in law as other

- to please your lover you have to make her ex saas as your maa and her ex hubby house as your mayka (anuj)

- when your lover ex hubby eyes your sister just walk off the house and business leaving her alone with criminal minded man than saying you love her so did that instead of staying and fighting

- keep forgiving all toxic people no matter they betray you 100 times before in name of family or wife family etc

It is a shocking but, in a way, correct representation of the sequence of events. (Though, don't leave out the MaAn love, which gave such good vibes...)

But the 4-year old kid should be asleep anyway - at the time of its telecast in India !!! 😈

I'd disagree here. I live in a city and a joint family. There are tons of people who do the same. Is it in the minority? Yes. But doesn't mean it's over. I think people in joint families do tend to stay together unless there's too much friction. Even then I've seen lots of people convert amcestral properties into separate flats so families can live in a joint-but-separate model.

I think ITV likes to stick to joint families because they bring back a sense of nostalgia and values that older generations associate with "Indian" culture. Oh plus the drama lol. How is there going to be drama when there's only 3 people at home 😆
