Innings

An innings is where a team bats first and the other team bowl and field first. A team can bat for certain overs and has 10 wickets. If they finish the overs, or loses 10 wickets(means 10 batters are out) their innings is over.

So a cricket match usually has 2 innings with both teams getting to bat and bowl. So when one team bats they score runs and set a target. The other team has to achieve it. So for example they score 125 runs in one innings. The next team who bats in the 2nd innings has to score at least 126 to win the game. If they can do so within the given overs and without losing all wickets, they win the game. If they fail to score the target, the team who batted first wins. If both score same after their innings is over its a tie.

Runs

So how runs is scored. Runs can be scored by

a) Running between wickets

So run between wickets is one way to score runs. If you notice in cricket there is one batter standing at one end and other batter end within a certain rectangular area. The batter has to hit and run to get runs before the fielding teams break the three sticks. So if both batter crosses the opposite end once they get 1 run. If they do it twice (meaning they get back to their position by running back and forth) they get 2 runs. If they do it thrice they get 3 runs. Once they cross the end without the stick being brokem they get 1 run added. So for example two batters run thrice but one fail to cross their end before the three sticks break, they get 2 runs they wont get the 3rd run and the batter who was suppose to cross the end gets out.

b) Boundary

Boundary is valued lots of runs. So if a batter hits the ball and it rolls over and his the boundary line(the line surrounded circularly at the end) they get 4 runs. If the batter hits the ball and its go over air and crosses the boundary line without bouncing they get 6 runs(which is the maximum)

c) Extras

Extas is usually like a penalty. So if the bowler dont ball properly the batting team gets runs as extras. If the bowler balls a little off line from three sticks it is a wide. If the bowler crosses the line they have to bowl from entirely its a no ball. No one get out on a no ball besides run out.(means break stick while batter is running) If bowler bowls way too top from batter then also its no ball.

Wickets (Out)

a) Bowled out

If the batter tries to hit the ball but in return one of the three sticks break or the bail on top of three sticks fall, they are bowled out and bowling team gets a wicket. The batter has to go away means they are out.

b) Catch out

If the batter tries to hit the ball and it goes on air without bouncing, and one of the fielders catch it, the batter is catch out. Batting team loses a wicket.

c) Run out

When two batters tries to cross ends, but before they can cross and the three sticks on their end is broken(one stick at least or bails off) they are run out.

d) Hit wicket

This is usually fault of batsman. If they three sticks break when the ball is bowled by batsman bat or body, they are hit wicket means they are out.

e) Leg behind wicket(Lbw)

If the bowler bowls and batter blocks the ball with his leg to prevent the sticks from breaking then they can be adjusted lbw out means they are out.
