I watched Geet… Sb is a hardcore fan of Geet.
So, novelty and headspace matters a lot when it comes to Gul’s things.
Ipk, rather Gul’s spin to one of m&b novels was actually novel to SP, and the characters she created in Indianised format went well with the then tagline of Rishta Wahi, Soch Nayi and Nayi Soch ki Nayi Lehar.
Infact, every story at that point on sp, had a central theme and didn’t deviate from it until atleast 300/400 episodes…
Dabh, which I was in loop for a long time😆 tho was in and around and about the point until 500 ish episodes… and I happily watched the ml fumble to seek permission to go to cinema with his wife from his mom and wife and his gymnastics to do so for a week 😆,trust me…that was entire 100-120 mins footage no other characters had any ss☺️ and by the end, they forgot about the movie🤣as drama started. 😆
See, drama is not a bad thing, how it is and how much it is matters quite a lot! 😳
I will ping you when I start with ib
My first ever ITV show was Geet and 4 Lions (Gorky, Gul, Nissar) were a startup then. So, I liked the 'honor killing' concept and not the manhandling part per se which I completely ignored to even focus on my writing. Then Gorky and the team would actually ponder on our thoughts. But when I stopped Geet after the confession and IPK was about to start, I went on a hiatus for some months. I used to be on the forum a bit and read Tanthya (I call her Tant) and oh boy! was she good! She loved ASR because he was grey but I loved the backstory of Khushi and ASR. Then I think I started writing and opened IPK Redux with Tanthya and the rest is history.
Now the thing with Gul and Gorky is they cater to all types of audiences. She knows she needs to deliver romance to certain groups and kitchen politics to certain. But above all else, 4 Lions is very good at delivering aesthetics. That is what pulled me in. Who says one cannot deliver by managing the creative side? Albeit we can. Bas, we need that nazar! Now, do they also squeeze the lemon extensively? You bet, they do. But they also manage to show the growth progressively. This is why GK shows run and fair pretty well which is not the case in EK shows. EK ruined Raya so badly that even the early episodes are an eyesore to me.
Do you know she worked as an assistant in Farmaan? There the ML was an M&B character and I remembered my mom loved it. So, the point is every gen at some point likes M&B characters and there's nothing wrong with it. We evolve slowly.
Look at this work of 4 Lions. ASR's gf tells him that Khushi is stuck in the center and can you rescue her? The setting is the chakravyuy and Arnav enters it and rescues her. After that next scene will be ASR giving back Khushi's mom's anklet.
Now, this scene and set up catered to two types of audience: One like me who loves the aesthetics and the metaphors; another who loves to see a romantic scene between a boy and a girl and the progression of their story.
EK delivered this in the early 50 episodes but after that, they degraded so bad that we see no turning back.
