Bad comparison! That is like comparing apples & oranges.

I think I get what Nezu is saying. Providing an opinion while debating a subject as an arm chair expert is different from walking the talk in reality.

Although, I said kanyadhaan makes no sense in today's world, when the time comes I will not speak against it, because I find it trivial to waste my time arguing about it with the parties who cannot be convinced; because my voice will be overpowered by the vast majority who believe otherwise. There is a time and place to voice my opinion, "Shaadi ka matap" is not one of them. ( I think this was what Nezu was alluding to. Sorry, if this is not what you meant!)

When & if I have power to not follow a ritual that I don’t believe in, I will do what suits me. For ex, if I am the father/parent of the bride or eldest in the family, I will do everything in my power to stop it this myth from being carried forward.

We sometimes follow practices that we don’t like to please elders & loved ones. That kind gesture is beyond any custom/ritual/religion. Period.

Major amends to age old practices happen very slowly. We are all a part of it. The first step is to acknowledge there is a problem, only then a solution can be found. Question them, stop following if it does not make sense, but not at the cost of hurting other’s and their beliefs.

Rape on the OTOH is a hineous crime!
