IPL 2022 Match 37: Lucknow Super Giants Vs Mumbai Indians

LSG will take on the Mumbai Indians in an exciting fixture at the Wankhede Stadium in Match 37 of IPL 2022 today.

Both teams have had contrasting results so far with the Lucknow Super Giants losing their previous game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore by a close margin, however, their overall campaign has been really good so far.

With four wins in seven games, LSG is placed fourth in the points table and is unlikely to make changes to their playing XI.

On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians continued their dismal form this season after losing their previous encounter against the Chennai Super Kings.

With seven losses in seven games, the Rohit Sharma-led side is almost out of contention for a spot in the playoffs and they will be looking to get back to winning ways to salvage some pride.

The Mumbai side did put up a fight in their previous game and hence they are expected to go in with the same playing XI.

Mumbai have had their worst IPL start, being the only team to start an IPL season with seven successive losses.

Be it the failure of the top order, the inability of the middle order to close out games, the bowlers not quite up to the mark or that their overseas names haven't really made much of an impact, it has been a collective no-show from the Mumbai Indians.

KL Rahul averages 94.5 in the nine innings he has played against Mumbai Indians since 2018, including three not outs and three scores in excess of 90.

His sequence against them reads 24, 94, 71, 100*, 17, 77, 60*, 21, 103*, with the last one coming in the Lucknow Super Giants colours just a few days back.

With his love for scoring big against Mumbai Indians, and going up against a team that has been battered, bruised and almost on the verge of exit, Rahul and Co. will be looking to take maximum advantage.

Pitch Report

The previous game (RR vs DC) at the Wankhede Stadium was a high-scoring thriller and it went right down into the last over to decide the winner of the game.

The wicket looks a belter to bat on and hence, any score could be chased down with the short boundaries as well.

The captain that wins the toss will be looking to bowl first on the wicket as chasing is relatively easy on the ground unless a huge score is posted.

Did you know?

- The game against LSG will be Mumbai Indians' first match at the Wankhede Stadium since May 5, 2019. They have a win percentage of 62.7 at this venue.

- Ishan Kishan scored 135 runs in his first two matches of IPL 2022, at a strike rate of 148.35. Since then he has scored only 56 runs in the next five games at 76.71.

- LSG have struggled with their No. 3 batter. Manish Pandey's 38 against MI is the highest while the next highest score is Evin Lewis' 10 against GT.

Probable Top Performers

Probable best batter of the Match: Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav has been one of the positives for Mumbai Indians despite their losing streak and the right-hander got off to a start in the previous game with a 21-ball 32, but failed to capitalize on it. The 31-year-old has got all the shots in the book and has accumulated 232 runs in five games for the Mumbai Indians already.

He will be looking to make a big score which will be vital to the plans for Mumbai’s success.

Probable best bowler of the Match: Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah meanwhile hasn’t had much of an impact in the wickets column for the Mumbai Indians, but certainly, he has been leading the bowling attack for his side with some excellent lines and lengths. Bumrah has taken just four wickets this season in the seven games he played despite having a decent economy rate and Mumbai would be hoping that he can get his name in the wickets' column quite often.

What they said:

"When you speak about the squad and how they are looking, in terms of preparation and in terms of what their capabilities are, I have full faith in the squad.

That's how I look at it. It's a team, we are going back each other through and through. I would say this squad is definitely capable of stacking up wins together, and that's what I want to see in the remainder of the season, and that's what we will be looking to achieve.

Having said that, you don't want to look too far ahead. You just want to look at every game, one game at a time" - Zaheer Khan, Director of Cricket Operations for Mumbai Indians.
