She absolutely was a much bigger star than him back then. He used to have successes, but his biggest hits in that era were Ishq and Pyar to hona hi tha. Both had Kajol ironically though Ishq was a multistarrer. She of course had many others. Ajay had plenty of successes and was considered a solid actor, but I would argue he was only considered a superstar post the Golmaal series, well after marriage.

On topic, interesting observation. Abhishek was doing pretty well in 2007 tbh.

But they sometimes the men bring their status as well. Like Kareena loves to flaunt Saif's Nawab status Eben though they have nothing, Ranbir is a Kapoor, Abhishek a Bachchan, Ranveer family is rich, etc.
