Enjoy.😊

Chapter 3- Someone to lean on.

Anubhav walked to where the rest sat and stood behind Gungun, and looked dead into Akriti's eyes daring her to say a word more. Akriti, actually none of his colleagues, had ever witnessed Anubhav's anger before. His anger was such that it was visible in the rigid strides he took towards them, in the way his knuckles turned white as he gripped the sides of the tray in an attempt to stop himself from punching someone, or in the fire that visibibly swam in his eyes. His demeanour had turned so cold within seconds, forget Akriti, even the walls enclosing the institute's canteen must've shivered witnessing him.

Gungun, who'd barely controlled the outburst until then, froze on her seat as she felt a certain warmth behind her. His warmth instantly calmed her nerves and she couldn't pinpoint why and how his mere presence had an instant calming and positive effect on her mind. At that point, she felt that she- the girl whose support had been the wall, the girl whose pillow was the only witness to her tears- did find someone to lean on. She did find someone who'll wipe her tears and hide her in his embrace from the cruelties of the world.

Just as the thought of Anubhav being there for her made her feel better, did the worry and thought of Anubhav thinking along the lines of what Akriti said hit her, making her anxious.

Does Anubhav, too, think I am like Dr Maya?

The fact that I was the one who brought up the idea of the contract marriage may have imprinted the thought in his mind, that I am a home breaker.

Maybe, as Akriti hinted, he does regret agreeing to marry a girl whose mother left her.

Unable to take the negative thoughts that invaded her mind, she abruptly stood up, and not even bothering to take her purse, ran away from the canteen. She hurriedly sat in the car, scared she'll collapse. She took a glance out the window, hoping Anubhav would come out after her only for her hopes to crash on seeing no one.

Of course.

"Driver Bhaiya, please drop me back home." She whispered, controlling her tears just on time.

Maybe I am destined to remain alone.

Meanwhile on the other side, Anubhav had messaged Gungun's driver, asking him to drop Gungun home safely and to inform him if any need does arise. As much as he wanted to go behind her, he knew he had to sort matters with a certain Ms Saxena; and because Gungun is his priority, he made sure to message the driver to keep an eye on Gungun and call him if need be. His eyes, that'd momentarily turned soft thinking of Gungun, instantly became rigid as he made eye contact with Akriti.

"So Ms Saxena, what is it that you just said?" He asked calmly and anyone from afar would mistaken it to be a random conversation between co-workers. However, the sneer and anger present in his voice and tone was hard to miss and it's a wonder the roses that bloomed on the windowsill didn't cower away.

"S-sir, I-I... Gungu-"

"Aren't you the one whose mouth was working at the speed of lightening just five minutes back? What happened now? Cat got your tongue?" He interrupted her, his voice as calm as a dormant volcano ready to explode any minute. And explode it did, as the very next minute, his voice boomed through the canteen, "How dare you insult Gungun!? Who the hell gave you the rights to insult my fiancée!? Answer my damn question!"

"Sir, I-I was just w-worried about you and your futu-ture. A-a-and I ended up say-ying things I didn't m-mean."

"Worried for me? Why? Who the hell are you to worry for me? Who gave you the rights to worry for me? Neither are you my family, nor my friend, and you definitely are not Gungun to worry about me." He said out crisp and clear, not once did his voice or demeanour falter,

"And... and wait a minute, you didn't sound like you didn't mean what you said. Your tone and body language clearly depicted how low you think of my wife. I'm no fool to fall for your lies, so go and feed them to people like your beings. You clearly said everything you did with the intention of hurting my fiancée! " Anubhav banged the table causing Akriti to flinch at her spot, and regret her words for the nth time within a span of five minutes. His friends and coworkers, too, flinched slightly at the intensity of the anger present in his voice, "I've been noticing you for the past many days. You always talk bad about her in front of me; now an almost-everyday occurence can't be a mere slip of tongue, can it?"

"You're too much, Akriti. What you said to Gungun isn't right at all." Yash voiced his disappointment, "I thought you were sensible enough to know better not to judge anyone by their parent's mistakes."

"Listen, and listen really very carefully Ms Akriti Saxena, don't you ever try to hurt Gungun's feelings, ever again. I'm sparing you this time given your relation with her." He warned her, as he looked dead in her eyes, "And one more thing- you have a problem with Gungun, keep it to yourself. No one is interested in knowing your opinion of her. Neither my family, nor Gungun herself and definitely not me. AND, don't even think your opinion of Gungun will do any difference to what I know and feel about her- you're no one important to me, for me to consider your thoughts. Do you understand?"

Giving her one last hard glance, he proceeded to gently pick Gungun's phone and purse, while his friends looked surprised at this act of his. They wondered how he changed from yelling at Akriti like a raging bull to picking up Gungun's items so delicately- even his eyes turned soft at the mere sight of her belongings. It was then, Yash and Kunal realised how much Gungun meant to their friend.

Anubhav began walking away from the group, when his eyes fell on Gungun's phone lockscreen wallpaper. It was a candid shot clicked of her laughing wholeheartedly as her Bua tickled her. His lips involuntarily curved into a soft smile, as his eyes traced every inch of Gungun's happy face. The next minute, though, he was filled with guilt at having leaving her with Akriti, even though it wasn't his fault.

I'm sorry for letting this smile slip off your face Riddhima.

While he was busy admiring his fiancée's smile, Yash, Kunal and Jasmine gently told Akriti off for what she done and also explained how wrong it was of her to do so. They even went on to say she should've been the first one to have understood the pain of not having a mom given her biological mum wasn't by her, either; and that it was very low of her to taunt Gungun over the very same. Hearing them, a thought struck Anubhav's mind.

He knew what he was going to say now will be going against his morals, but damn the values for now- when it comes to Gungun, everything can go to hell for all he cares. Akriti taunted Gungun over a matter she's most sensitive to, let her have her taste of her very own medicine too. His lips curved into a sardonic smile and it was at that instant anyone could recognise him as- not Anubhav Kulshreshth, Scientist of the Year- Riddhima Bhatnagar's fiancé, Anubhav.

"By the way, Ms Saxena..." He turned to face them, as the three stopped talking and Akriti looked at Anubhav with the hope of him apologizing to her. However, she felt the ground slip from under her feet at his following statement, "If I'm correct, you think that your mum, Garima Bua, left you for the luxuries her brother's house has to offer; which, in turn, makes her no different to Dr Maya, in your opinion. Am I right? And now, if we have to go by your despicable principles and thought process of kids embibing what their parents are, I'd rather you worry about yourself and not Gungun and my married life. Who knows, you may end up leaving your husband and kids one day, just because your mum supposedly did too. Afterall, jaisi ma vaisi beti, right?"

He walked off satisfied by the look of pure horror on her face, as a result of his insult. If he'd admit, a little part in him was guilty (more so because he involved Garima in this) but Ms Saxena deserved every word directed to her. As soon as he entered the lab where he gives practicals classes to students, he sighed as he sat on the chair. He immediately took Gungun's phone out of his pocket to look at her lockscreen, and instant relief washed through him on seeing her genuine laughter. He smiled as he made a promise to himself at that moment,

I'll try my level best to keep you happy. Always, Papa ki Pari.

That night found Anubhav tossing and turning in his bed. It was past 12 and he'd gone to bed more than an hour ago, but Gungun's face appeared every time he closed his eyes. He gave a frustrated sigh as he threw the duvet off him, walked towards the door of the balcony and opened it letting the moonlight creep into his dark room.

He was frustrated at not getting the chance to meet Gungun after all that happened at the canteen. His initial plan was to visit Gungun immediately after work, but seems like luck wasn't on his side. It was the end of the month and the reports were to be made and sent to the dean and it was nearing half past 10 by the time he came home. This was usually Akriti's duty, but she didn't step foot into the same room as him after he told her off. And truth be told, he didn't mind at all. He would prefer doing her work than having to bare her- and now after how she behaved with Gungun, she'd become intollerable for him. It was just his values that prevented him from raising his hand on a girl.

He'd called the driver at least 10 times during the day to ensure Gungun was okay. The driver was beginning to get so annoyed that by the 5th call, he began answering his unasked question! Despite the driver saying she was okay, he couldn't help the nagging feeling that she was hurting a lot from the inside. From how much he's gotten to know Gungun, she wasn't the one to show her hurt to anyone and would mask it behind her facade of indifference.

He kept staring at the moon not knowing that Gungun, too, sat under the same moon trying to derive some peace. Gungun had always loved the night sky. The innumerable facts and theories of the world up there, as well as its beauty, always left her awed.

Her mind reeled back to the happenings of the day and she sighed. If Akriti's words caused her pain, it was how much Anubhav believed in them that made her more anxious. She'd always been a me-girl. She never gave a damn on what others thought about her, which was the main reason behind her straightforward nature and genuine personality.

But.

But.

But.

A certain someone's image of her, started meaning a lot. A little too much than lot.

What she didn't understand was why his belief about her mattered so much to her. She didn't understand why she started wanting him to look at her in a positive light. She was afraid he'd think she was like the last person she ever wanted to be- like Doctor Maya. She was hurt by the fact he didn't once come after her or call her; but she was more angry at herself for keeping expectations from the guy who's meant to exit her life a year into their marriage.

She wondered how life would be if her mum was a part of it. She would've got a best friend, a confidant, a crime partner in her mum. She needn't the pillow to confess her hurt too, or her useless friends to keep her busy. In the name of her family, she had only her father and Bua, both of whom who loved her unconditionally; but no matter how much they did, it always stung her heart to know her mum, forget dislike, hated her. She was an unwanted burden to her mom, and now she didn't want to be the same to Anubhav as well.

So busy was she in keenly looking at the moon that she didn't realise someone's presence in her garden. Someone whose presence she unwillingly began desiring for. As he began moving towards her, she felt an instant-calming breeze caress her cheek and she closed her eyes as a smile graced her lips. However, it was the very next minute her eyes flew open feeling him next to her- she knew it was him -and she whipped her head to find him sitting on the spot next to her, his legs dipped into the pool's water just like hers.

Anubhav.

A mixture of emotions surged through her seeing him physically there, besides her and giving an alien yet gorgreous smile. Was she happy? Was she shocked? Was she relieved? She didn't know. Was she supposed to keep looking at him? Was she supposed to start a conversation? Would it look rude to outright ask what he was doing there and why he was there? She didn't know. All she knew was his presence had a strange calming effect on her.

He was like her human-chocolate. Just like how a bite of chocolate instantly lightens her mood, his presence does too. Only difference being, chocolate didn't help her much this time while a second into him sitting beside her, did.

How?

On the other hand Anubhav, who by now learned how to read her eyes, intently looked at his fiancée whose eyes had given away the plethora of emotions she was feeling at that moment. Seeing the happiness-plus-relief swimming in her eyes, he knew he made the right decision. While a part of him was hesitant given the time, a rather huge part of him was restless. He didn't make heads or tails of anything and dashed out the house door, not bothered if anyone happened to see him.

Knowing she was okay was of utmost importance.

As soon as he entered the Bhatnagar's property and was about to head in- by climbing the pipe, by the way- did he happen to spot her on the other side of the garden with her legs dipped in the swimming pool's cool water. As he walked further towards her, her view got clearer by the second and he felt his breath get stuck in his throat at the beautiful picture she made. Eyes closed. Head slightly tilted to the night sky. Face illuminated by the few garden lights.

Beautiful.

"Hey." He whispered knowing she would be too shocked to start a conversation.

"Hi." She whispered back, their background music being the melodious silence of the night remixed by the chirping of the cricket. She slightly lowered her eyes before directing her eyes back to the night sky and Anubhav done the same, "I didn't expect you at this hour."

"I couldn't help myself. With Akriti insulting you and you running away, I knew you needed the time to compose yourself, yet would want someone with you."

"I'm sorry." He apologised after a few minutes of silence.

"What for?" She asked, turning to face him as shock made its way to her visage.

"Just, I'm sorry. Neither does she have the right to insult you, nor should you have the time to hear her nonsense."

"You shouldn't be sorry. It's not your fault. As it is, I'm used to hearing it." Her voice turned an octave low and she looked the other way.

"What do you mean?" He asked. His curiosity shown by his scrunched eyebrows.

"Nothing." She replied but he held her hands. She looked back at him, as he gently pressed her hand in his as his eyes silently pleaded to let him in.

And she began narrating the most dreaded phase of her life to him, unknown to the fact that the person she was sharing this with would become her healing balm.

It was then, Gungun got to know what it meant having someone she can turn to at any time, for the first time in her life. And trust her when she said that moment with Anubhav was the best moment of her life so far.

Fun fact: I was so lost in Anu-Bajao-Akriti, that the part alone surpassed 1200 words.😆

Thanks for the tag.

First of all, I would like to know ur beautiful name.

Secondly, this story and other FFs are my healing balm as my heart aches thinking about KKIS.

Thirdly and most importantly, you are an amazing writer. I cud literally imagine the whole scene in front of my eyes , canteen scene, pool scene. Ur words carried me away into a beautiful imaginary world of AnuGun which now don't exist in real life.

So my solace are such beautiful FFs.

Waiting for the next part. Please update soon. Waitinggggggg

I'm so glad it brought some relief- tho I'm very unsure about the next chapter thanks to the horrendous turn the show's taken.

I love your Anu❤️ Makers really ruined Anu and it's heartbreaking to see your favourite getting spoilt. How much I wish to see your story performed by Manan and Yesha

Thank you for this update. Looking forward to the next part.💗

Hey Minnie!🤗

And now with the way the show has been going on, THIS AnuGun is an unfulfilled dream... sigh.😔

I'll be honest, I couldn't stop Anubhav bashing Akriti once I started. 😆 Likh ke hi itna sukoon mila!

Omg, this is so sweet of you to say so!❤️ Can we bunch take over the so called creatives of the show, rewind to the party night and continue with what the show was supposed to be all about- light hearted comedy, family and bubbling romance?🥲

With the current track, my motivation is lost somewhere, but will try to write one soon.😊
