Yes. I believe he is a good person trying to be better. I also think he had a hard childhood and a difficult relationship with his father that he is still sorting through (and nearing 50 that is an awful lot of sorting). Someone made the point of differentiating character from personality and I guess it’s true - but I would value character over personality. Charm fades. Character grows.
